I moved from Millbrae, CA to Concord, CA in December, 2007. Total move was 6 hours (two men) at a total $525.00 by a reputable moving company out of San Jose (East/West Moving Co).

On June 7, 2008 I allowed Continental Express to move me 13 miles across town. I chose Continental over 5 other companies because its website indicated that there would be no charge for packing materials. I had packed all of my belongings, except for two large mirrors, which I assumed they would wrap in their moving "blankets."

The movers arrived on time (less one man) with a truck too small for my belongings. The moved quite slowly, and spent an inordinate amount of time cutting up cardboard boxes to wrap things such as a carpet shampooer! I was frustrated, so I began hauling my belongings out of my apartment myself to speed things up.

The movers could not fit all of my stuff onto the truck, so they said they would have to make a second trip. It took them two hours to drive 26 miles round-trip and to load up the last two of pieces of furniture.

They arrived at my new home and refused to unload until I paid them for nine hours of labor and for packing materials ($269.00). The total cost was over $1000.00. I was so shocked that I called Continental's manager, who said he would review the charges at a later date, but was unable to adjust the cost right then and there. Had I not moved the exact same items six months earlier for $525.00, I may not have immediately realized that I was being ripped off. I had no choice but to pay these people.

I have since read identical complaints written by other consumers on Yelp.com and Ripoffreport.com. I have filed complaints with the BBB, Dept of Justice, Dept of Transportation, the FBI, and finally, the Superior Court of California in Contra Costa County. I encourage anyone who has had this experience with Continental to do the same. They will continue their allegedly fraudulent business practices unless we consumers stop them!
