Cox Communications provides the only cable and cable internet in my area, so they can do pretty much whatever they want. They've always charged a late fee, AND a reconnect fee that was 7 and 8 dollars respectively. So if your bill is late, you pay an extra 15 dollars on top of whatever your normal bill is.

When you have just internet, your bill is only 49 a month after all charges, so that's a significant amount of money. Please keep in mind that the reconnect is done automatically, by the computer. When you use the automatic payment system, the instant you confirm the payment the internet is back up. So the 8 dollars is just a way of taking money from you.

This was an annoyance, but not the end of the world. However, now Cox has upped their reconnect fee significantly. You now pay 27 dollars to have your internet reconnected. This is an excessive fee, and unfair to consumers since we have no alternative cable choice. Sure we can go to Satellite TV, but the internet service alternative choices are inferior.

Please take a few minutes and let them know how you feel about a 27 dollar reconnect fee, they're doing it because they know you have no alternative.

Thank you very much.

Cox reconnect fees ARE a rip off

I absolutely agree. Cox internet reconnect fees are excessive given the value they provide. No serviceman has to come out to reconnect the service. They flip a switch in their office. My bill is due on the second of the month. Cox disconnected my service on the 29th of the month, Less than 30 days past the due date of the bill. I have been a Cox customer for many years and always paid my bill on time. This last month I had some financial difficulties which caused my bill to be late. The total Cox charged for the reconnect and late fees was $48. This is absolutely highway robbery. I can understand a small reconnect fee for the inconvenience of service interruption, but $48 is completely Unreasonable, especially for someone who is having trouble paying their bill in the first place. Cox is taking advantage of customers because they have little, to no, competition, so they can get away with charging these outlandish fees. Not to mention the fact that my bill has increased over 50% within the last year with no change in service.. This is just another example of utility monopoly gouging.

Cox Cable does rip people off!!! The reps who answer the phone belong in the Ghetto for the way they talk to customers. They get loud, rude, disrespectful. Who needs that Dear John? No one who PAYS their bills early, which I do. And proud of it! :) And you reside where? And you have this cable? I think not. You have Comcast or Verizon, LOL! So unless you experienced Cox cable and their deceitful and ignorant ways, take a flying leap! Cox Cable is a total nightmare & I am not done with them yet! Far from it. John has no idea what he is saying :D Bank on it!

Not a ripoff for anyone else either.

Only those few that pay late/habitual pay late which is nowhere near the majority of customers. You wouldn't know the fee structure unless you paid late regularly.

This is the very definition of a rip-off. You clearly don't know the situation, so I will go into further detail. I canceled my cable TV service, to have just internet. They said they would be coming to pick up the digital receiver box, but never showed up. I paid my bill on time, but there was a past due on the receiver till they could come pick it up. When the bill became past due, (Not my bill, but the bill for the receiver) I called and asked when they planned on getting it. They informed me that they only make one attempt, and do not leave a note to let you know they tried. They did not make the appointment time that was set with me, which was no big deal. I set another appointment, which they again did not show up for. I called them, and told them their person was over an hour late, and I was told they could not send someone out at this time. At this point I just waited. At 26 days past due, my internet was shut off. When I called, they said "Well they came out, but you weren't home." I did NOT have to pay the reconnect charge. They acknowledged fault, and removed the charge from my bill. They also sent someone right over to pick up the box. That said, this IS an excessive fee for an automated process. The entire point of this article is to let people know that if their bill goes past due for more than 3 weeks, (Not 2 months as the gentleman above seemed to believe) you will owe an additional 27 dollars to have it turned back on by an automated process. An excessive fee is a rip-off. If they had to send someone to your home to do it, that'd be one thing, but the automated system turns it back on for you instantly. No one moves a finger, or uses a brain wave. It's a rip-off. Did they rip me off? No. But companies shouldn't be able to charge that kind of money for a automatic reconnection. If your service is 40 dollars a month, an automatic reconnection fee of 27 doesn't seem like a rip off to you? I think the general public will disagree, and hopefully like minded individuals will do something about this. Thank you very much, Jaeron

They do not 'soft' diso you till you are OVER 2 MONTHS past due. Pay your bill on time and you will NOT have any fees. You would throw a hissy if they owed you money and you had to wait 2 months to get it.............why should they provide you a service, have you not pay them for it, and then not charge you a fee????
