I've been looking for a wireless modem to replace my 1.5K dial-up modem. Cricket broadband wireless seemed to be a good answer, so I called their order number. The salesman was very careful to qualify me to be sure I could pay.

I tried to find out if I qualified from the technical viewpoint too. I wanted to talk about system requirements, since I have an old, used pentium box running linux, and I have lots of compatibility problems, but the fone salesman refused to even discuss it. He flatly asserted that the modem would run on ANY computer, with ANY operating system, and that installation was ridiculously simple. All I had to do was follow the simple instructions. And if for some odd reason I didn't like it, I could just return it! No Problem!

He tried to put the order through, but he had a lot of problems. It didn't seem to want to go though. He had me on hold for quite a long time. Finally he said

he would start over and try it again. We had already spent an hour on the fone. It didn't seem to be going through the second time either. He put me on hold

again. After 20 or 30 minutes, the line went dead. I had already spent about two hours on the phone by this time, much of it on hold.

The next day I called again to find out if my order had gone through or not. I was vigorously assured that my order could not possibly have gone through

UNLESS I got a confirmation email. No email! So I put my order in, and was told that it went through, and I even got a confirmation email.

About a week later, the Fedex truck came, and the driver handed me TWO packages and asked me to sign. I OBJECTED that I had only ordered ONE, NOT TWO. He replied that they often ship one order in two packages. That

seemed weird to me, but he's the Fedex man, he ought to know, and he was in a big hurry to rush off again. So I signed.

I opened one package. Inside is a packing slip that informs you cannot return anything without a return authorization number, AND there is a $35 "restocking fee" even after you've jumped through hoops for a Return Authorization Number, which the salesman had neglected to mention. That is definitely a "Problem" to me!

THE FIRST BLATANT LIE!

Anyway, I read the instructions, and discovered you MUST have a Windows or Mac Operating System to use the modem. It won't run under linux! ANOTHER BLATANT LIE BY THE SALESMAN. The modem was completely useless to me! It was blatant fraud to sell it to me.

But they sent me TWO modems!

And they put THREE billings on my Visa card!

Visa cancelled the two extra billings,

but told me Cricket has 30 days from

the date they receive my return to replace the money they stole from my back account.I called again after a few days, to find that Cricket had placed ANOTHER

charge on my account, and I still couldn't file a claim because the 30 days were not up yet.

So they have close to $300 of my money, for a product I can't possibly use they never should have sold me, which I had to drive to town and pay to ship back again.

And they're undoubtedly going to try to collect $35 EACH for both of the unusable crap modems they never should have sent even one of, which have never been removed from their packing. One package hasn't even been opened. The only the I took from the other is the return instructions.

While I was at the post office returning the two modems they sent me, the guy in line behind me was returning

one too! He was equally furious! He is filing suit against them!

STAY AWAY FROM THEM!

It's extremely difficult to get an address for them as

the snail mail they send you has NO return address

on the outside, OR on their letterhead, OR the packing slip with the modem. However, their main corporate headquarters appears to be this:
