A few years ago I received a garunteed acceptance offer from Cross Country Bank. I accepted the card in hope to build my credit. At the time of accepting, I purchased the protection package that supposedly helps you if you are sick, injured or unemployed. Several months later I became unemployed. I contacted the company to report this to them. A few weeks later I began receving phone calls from their collections department 8-10 times daily, even into the night hours.

At the same time I was receiving collection letters from agencies such as BBC, Midland Financial, and several more. I was also receving letters from attorneys threating suit. I called Cross Country Bank and asked them who I was supposed to be paying and why I was being harrassed when I had purchased the protection package. They told me to pay the company BBC. I set up a payment plan with this company, paying only $35.00 a month.

They sent me an invoice, I made the first required payment of $70.00. I never heard from them again. I begain receiving the phone calls and letters from more agencies. I again called Cross Country Bank and explained that I had made payment to BBC as they had informed me to do and that I was receving phone calls and letters from other companies. They told me they had only turned my account over to 1 company and to pay them. I still never received anything from BBC again. When I started working again last year, I called Cross Country Bank to tell them I was employed. After that I began receving phone calls at work from these collection agencies. I made a call again to Cross Country Bank and this time only got the answering service. The phone calls continued at work and I told them each if they called my place of work again that I would file a harassment suit against them.

I haven't heard anything from anyone in over a year. When I tried to log into my account online, what did I find? Cross Country Bank is Applied Card Bank now and the accounts have changed. So I have no way to pay anyone because Cross Country Bank/Applied Card Bank says they turned my account over, but to who? Recently I received a letter in the mail from my county court stating that Midland Financial was suing me for over $2,000. I was asked to contact my local court or receive judgement by default in Midland Financials favor. On the same day I also received a letter from Powerl, Rogers & Speak, regarding the same exact account #, only they claim I owe Cross Country Bank/Applied Card Bank $1,000. If anyone has any advice or could tell me what I am supposed to do then please let me know.

Years ago I had gotten a CCB card. They never told me it was a secured credit card. I got the card and found that there was $980 charged on the card. I called CCB I asked them what it was about they explained all the "fees" and that a majority was a security deposit. I told them I didnt want the card then, it was misrepresented, the woman on the other end said, and I quote, "tuff, you got the card now, you have to pay for it". Well I ignored the card, never paid the card. I had those people calling me EVERYDAY asking me for money. I explained I never wanted the card. They basically said the same thing that woman said. Only one was stupid enough to threaten legal action, I told them he better be serious and I better receive a court motion within 10 days. He backed out of what he said. Then all the sudden they stopped calling me. Odd? nope, thier collections agency owned by them started calling me and harrassing me by this time the ammount was $1400 plus late fees and such. I still refused to pay. I told them I explain to CCB that I really didnt want the card and it wasnt even activated. They stopped calling, a month maybe two went by, some other collections agency calls me on the same debt, I told them Not my debt, I never used the card, did not activate it and to provide proof that I activated the card with signature. They told me that they didnt have to provide proof. I argued with them finally they hung up. Then I got a letter in the mail from that collections agency stating the ammount and balance and at the top it said proof of purchase? what? That was even more dumb than the guy who threatened legal action. Anyway, Calls stopped. Later I needed to get my credit report. ALL the collections agencies and CCB were reporting on my credit report all with different ammounts all within $10 difference. Not only that but several inquries that were just there to be malious. 15 different line items on each report and 10 inquires. I wrote to the credit reporting agencies and told them what had happened. 2 had put the collections and CCB under fraud investigation and the 3 one just deleted everything. But the fun doesnt end there. Not as soon as I figure that the credit reporting agencies are going to see what these people did. A new entry was found on all my reports with $2000 under a company called Applied Card. I was in the process of buying a house and they were out to screw me. So I got the number to this Applied Card place and talked to a collections agent I started by asking for a manager after I gave the acct. Got the manager and said the whole coversation very calm, "I hope that you are taping this conversation. I have been in the collections industry before and this will be my last phone call to you" He started by saying, "so are you going to give up and pay?" I said, "nope, I am not paying something that I did not ask for" He said. "lady, your a deadbeat trying to get out of paying" I said, "nope, I just want the document I signed that says I entered into an agreement with CCB or with your company for that matter" He said, "we dont have to provide that information." I said, "don't take me for dumb, I have asked for this from other people and they send me junk, I want a signature, a photocopy, which is my right as a consumer and by the collection act is my right. I should recieve it within 30 day. I have been playing your little game for too long, I ignored you hoping you would all see the mistake. You all obviously havent. So if I do not receive this within 30 days. I will take your company to court." He said, "well lady, you can threaten, you still owe it, and I dont have to give you nutin" I then said, "ok, fair enough, remember if I dont recieve it within 30 days I will be taking your company to court and I will get far more than what is on that un activated card." I hung up. Then proceeded to prepare for a court case. 20 days later, I got a letter in the mail saying balance due $0.00. pays to play their game.
