I had a prescription filled and two days later I was looking online and I realized that CVS gave me the generic brand of what the doctor had prescribed even though he specifically checked on the form "do not substitute". I didn't catch this until the day after I had taken the fist dose. I called CVS to tell them about it and basically they blamed my doctor because he only checked the "do not substitute" box and didn't write it out on the form. The rude woman I spoke with said the pharmacist must have been confused. I told her I was right there in the store waiting for it to be filled, so they could have asked me if they didn't understand. Really how hard is it to get if the "do not substitute" box is checked, you do not substitute. I didn't even graduate from college and I get it.

Then she said they couldn't take the generic back because I already started taking it. I was like so you screw up and you can't fix it? Then she said they could TRY to get me the name brand and run it through my insurance. At that point I was so frustrated at her pushing the blame that I told her I would contact my doctor and I slammed the phone down. How dare they not take full responsibility?

I can tell you this, CVS had just lost a customer and Walgreens has gained one.

There Are Laws That Pharmacies Abide By

I understand your being upset at not being helped at your local CVS pharmacy, but there are laws that govern pharmacies and some consumers do not know this. There are different laws in different states regarding prescription writing and dispensing, and it seems like the law there in New Jersey is similar here in Nevada in this regard. It is NOT enough for a prescriber to just check the box that says Do Not Substitute. They must write out Brand Name Medically Necessary, otherwise, pharmacists will dispense generics. But I think that the pharmacy staff could have handled your complaint better.
