I was lured in by a TV commercial. They said they'd clean my pc for free and what they did was wreck it! First they trapped me on their site until they got $84. out of me and then the so called registry cleaner and antivirus went to work and ate my antivirus software and my antispyware first. Then it went to work on other programs etc. My brother's a lawyer and contacted them. They did refund my money. But soon after I saw another TV ad that was different and I believe was theirs as well! CNET and Office Depot were carrying it also. So I'm concerned about that. They have since dropped it. These people were out of India! I'm still dealing with the damage. I cleaned my computer as best I can with a "First Aid" disk a friend made. I just wanted you to know to stay away from this site! And any others they come up with!

This was not CyberDefender's software - you were infected with a Trojan Horse

I absolutely sure the software you are mentioning did NOT come from CyberDefender.   My PC was infected with a Trojan Horse that did exactly what you mentioned - it came from a website I visited NOT CyberDefender.  I actually had a subscription with CyberDefender which included their services if I had a problem.  I  called them because I could not regain control of my PC as the Trojan Horse made it look like my system had a virus and tried to force/steer my PC to a website to buy anti-virus software.  I knew it was a bogus program doing this because I already had software with CyberDefender and they would not be asking me to purchase again.  Anyway, Cyberdefender fixed the problem right away and removed all viruses and Trojan Horse software.   All of the tech's I spoke with were US based with normal American accents.

First of all the cyber defender website does somewhat trap you on the webpage by having multiple pop up messages come up on the screen when you attempt to leave. These pop up messages can be somewhat confusing and lead the customer to be sent to another CYDE page. Althoguh they are not trapping you on the page per say, they are purposefully making it difficult for you to leave. No other reputable Anti-virus company does this on their website.

Now to claim cyber defender is not out of india is absurd... cyde technical support started in india and has never left.. in fact alot more employees were just recently contracted in india after the chapter 11 bankruptcy was filed a month ago as they can still get away with paying people in india 6 US dollars or so per case/hour to work on your pc. The los angeles call center was created well after the outsourced india callcenters were running.

I am an ex employee and i would testify in court that i as well as many other employees for cyber defender have seen cyber defender's anti-virus, registry cleaner and pc optimizer ruin pcs and software on pcs.

These issues include damaging registry keys for such programs like microsoft office so they are no longer activated or no longer work or auto start, Bluescreens caused by the cyebr defender EDC driver, false positives deleted safe programs, slowness caused by high CPU usage from running the software which all autostarts  "to remind you to purchase the software if you have not already".

CYDE will say and do anything to try and protect its tarnished reputation. However the fact the the CEO, Call Center Manager, Supervisors all left a long time ago should have clued the world in on this scam companies future failure. Instead a handfull of people have walked away clean with a hefty profit leaving their eomplyees and customer left wodnering what happened. The entire business model was scam and the people responsible are no longer there to point the finger at. ie Gary Gusinov Ceo, (among others) the original creator and propagator of the eblocs - spyblocs rogue anti virus.

I mean honestly, do you know any other company that is run or advertises under completely different names with completely different web addresses?

Cyber defender always was and is a scam. If you have given them money. Call your credit card company and charge back!

CyberDefender's website cannot trap customers, and our software cannot wreck a computer

Dear Customer,

The Cyberdefender customer service department would be happy to investigate the status of your account, but unfortunately we cannot find your account from just the online nickname cap22 and need more identifying information in order to assist you. We would be glad to work with you towards a solution for your unsatisfactory experience, so feel free to contact our corporate headquarters at 877-229-5957, or email us at supportATcyberdefender.com, and please be sure to give us your full name, date of purchase, and the email address you used when you made your purchase. We will be happy to assist you.

We have no means of trapping any visitors to our website and cannot trap [you] on our site until you buy anything any customer can exit out of our website at any time simply by clicking the [X] in the upper right hand corner of the browser page. Regarding your contention that CyberDefender ate my antivirus software and my antispyware first, we assure you that our products really are just computer programs and are not capable of eating other programs or taking aggressive action of any kind.

If it seems that our antivirus software has not worked on your computer, your Early Detection Center account does not work until it is activated.  If your account remained unactivated, that would be the reason why a message box would keep popping up prompting you to activate your account. For details on how to uninstall CyberDefender products please visit: (((Redacted)))

The problems you are describing, such as a program that ate your other software, are not anything our program could ever possibly have caused, and if your computer is malfunctioning that severely, you might want to take it to a tech shop and have the hard drive reformatted and the operating systems reinstalled. That will return your computer to out-of-the-box factory specifications, and get rid of any virus or malware thats set up shop on your computer. Be sure to back up all of your data on a peripheral device first, however.

From the behavior of the program on your computer, its also entirely possible that you might have mistaken a rogue antivirus such as Cyber Security for a legitimate CyberDefender program. You can learn more about rogue antiviruses here: (((Redacted)))

None of the programs listed in the Wikipedia page are in any way affiliated with CyberDefender.

Your assertion that These people were out of India! is not true, as CyberDefender is an American, California-incorporated company. It is possible that when you called our call center, you spoke to an American customer service representative with a Latin-American, Russian-American, or Indian-American accent, or spoke to one of our after-hours overseas reps in India or the Philippines. CyberDefender is an equal-opportunity employer, and our Los Angeles workforce consists of talented people from a great number of ethnicities and backgrounds, reflecting the extremely diverse mix of cultures in our hometown.

We also outsource some of our very considerable customer service workload to overseas call centers, just like a great many large American corporations. We will always give refunds to dissatisfied customers, and securing the services of a lawyer to get a refund is not necessary. All you need to do is contact our customer service helpdesk, say you want a refund, and youll get your refund. Its that simple.

Again, we would be glad to work with you towards a solution for your unsatisfactory experience, so feel free to contact our corporate headquarters at 877-229-5957, Monday through Friday from 5:00am 10:00pm, or Saturday and Sunday from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., or email us at supportATcyberdefender.com, and please be sure to give us your full name, date of purchase, and the email address you used when you made your purchase. We will be happy to assist you.

Thank you,

CyberDefender Customer Service
