I started dealing with Dan Nelson in 2002. They had sent me a flyer in the mail talking about the specials they had going on. At the time, I was buying a car through another company in town and still owed money on it. When I talked to Dan Nelson the first time they stated that I should just give the car back in order to be able to buy a car through them. I said I didn't want to do that because that would not be good for my already poor credit. They said there was nothing they could do for me at the time.

About a month later I got a phone call from one of the salesmen at Dan Nelson saying he had gotten my name out of the system and why hadn't I bought a car the last month before. I told him about the vehicle I already had and he said they could pay that amount off so to come back in a nd pick out my car.

I went in and didn't find anything I liked on the lot but went through with the application anyway because the salesman said they received cars in on a daily basis. I spent hours there doing all of the paperwork. After I was finished I went home. I barely walked in my door and the phone was ringing with the salesman on the other end telling me to come back down. He thought they did happen to have a care I would be interested in.

I went back down to Dan Nelson and sitting out front was a beautiful 2000 Pontiac Grand Am. It was the best day of my life. I never dreamed I would be able to own a car like that. So I cleaned out the van I had and signed all of the loan papers and drove away in my new car.

Three weeks later they called me at work and told me that the loan had not gone through and that I had to bring the car back.

I was devastated. Not to mention I had all of the paperwork stating that I owned the car. The only explanation they would give me is that the loan had not gone through. But as I said I had paperwork stating otherwise.

I went to take them back the vehicle and they had also in the three weeks I had their car not done anything with my van. It was still sitting in their back lot waiting to be gone through. So now not only do I not have their vehicle, but I have missed a payment on the one I gave to them and am in danger of losing that too. I asked them if they would give me the amount of the missed payment so I could pay for the van. It was only 90.00, but it was 90.00 more than I had. They refused and said that was not something they were allowed to do.

At the end of this experience, I requested they never contact me again. In the two years following, I have received several mailings from them. I have called and requested to be taken off their mailing list and have told them what happened in the past. It hasn't happened yet.

I was so humiliated at the end of this. I took pictures of the car and showed all my friends and family my new car. Can you imagine how it felt to have to explain to everyone what happened to my new car. It was one of the most humiliating experiences I have ever been through.

I just received a call from this company that they have "great news for me" and to come in and start the process. This disgusts me, as just one month ago they turned me down. I am under the understanding that this company was formerly JD Byrider. I had purchased a car from that company before they had changed to Dan Nelson, and the car was junk! It drove great the first three months, then about one week after my three month, 3000 (yes, 3000!) mile warranty was up, the reverse went out in the car. I took it back, left the keys in it and left after they would not deal with me. Ended up paying $700 (owed about $3000) to clear it, then went through he!! and back trying to get it corrected on my credit report that I paid what they asked and the loan was cleared. Without this website, I would have gone down tomorrow and probably made the biggest mistake of my life and bought a car from them. Thanks to all who post and keep this website up! You are saving lots of us alot of headaches!!

Rip Off Report Consumer Advocate responds Julie

Julie Hi, My name is Stick B. I am a Rip Off Report Consumer Advocate. Car dealers that know me hate me and what I do. I hooked up with www.ripoffreport.com many months ago to help car buyers understand all of the deception in the auto industry. We have some local Media that knows me very well and they do not like to let me have any air time. I am thinking of spanking a local Phoenix TV station real HARD for not airing a news story that is and was very important for car buyers. Try "maybe NO Safety RECALLS for some new car buyers. This TV station said that is NOT NEWS a consumer can use! Some of what I do is something your local newspaper and local TV and talk radio stations should be doing for you. They don't because they worship their advertisers. MO money from car dealers is much more important then protecting you from deception. Want proof? Print off a copy of your Rip Off Report and take it to your local TV station's news department. see what they say to you. Take my challenge! If you post on your Rip Off Report the closest big city you live near, I will post many of your local media contact info for you so you can see what I am saying is true. I have read your Rip Off Report and I hope you read what I am about to tell you and I hope you take it to heart. You said "Three weeks later they called me at work and told me that the loan had not gone through and that I had to bring the car back" Call that a "YANK" or a "Spot delivery" They let you take the car home, show it to all of your friends, family and coworkers and then you get the dirty phone call. They hope you show this car to everybody that you know, then they call you to come back to the car dealer, hopping that you are in LOVE with the car and that you are willing to let them GO DEEPER into your check book. If a car buyer loves their "New Over Priced Depreciating Sled" it makes it much easier for the car dealer to get MO MONEY when you come back. Many car dealers do "Yanks" so they can take you off of the car buying market so their competition does not have a chance to spank you into a BAD CAR DEAL. Mean time they, the car dealer "Fires a shot gun" to your credit report. Doing that does your credit score NO GOOD AT ALL, and they know this but in many cases they just do NOT CARE! They then call you back to the scene of the slime and try to pump you into a new contract that has a MUCH HIGHER interest rate. Bottom line, MO MONEY! Trust me car dealers know that they are not going to pay off your trade until they have locked you into some kind of car deal. mean while you fall behind on your trade in car loan. Trust me they do not CARE! Car dealers do this crap all the time and many AG's do NOTHING, and you get RIPPED or raped! I now have a few questions for you. I hope you are keeping up with what I am telling you. 1 do you want to expose this car dealer for the way you feel you have been treated. Yes, or NO? 2 Do you want many would be car buyers to read your Rip Off Report, Yes or No? 3 If this car dealer is a New car dealer, are you willing to send a copy of your Rip Off Report to General Motors main office if I post the contact info/address, Yes or NO? 4 Are you willing to use all info that I post that I know will help you in a big way to expose this car dealer for the way you FEEL, Yes or NO? 5 Are you willing to print off a few copies of your Rip Off Report and mail them to some government officials in your state if I post their contact info. People like your AG's office and your State banking office and others that might enjoy reading your Rip Off Report? Knowing that your local media will not expose deception in the auto industry, sometimes you get much farther if you use the FREE government, they do not get advertising money from car dealers and it is their job to go after fraud if they feel that you will expose them for not doing what they are paid to do. Trust me your local government does not want to be noted on the Rip Off Report as being LAZY and not willing to protect consumers/tax payers. Now, do you want me to fire up my computer again and post the contact info, Yes or NO? Surprise! I found a TV station that has balls. http://www.nbc4.tv/News/1475717/detail.html

Julie: We at Dan Nelson have helped thousands of customer get the car they want. As part of the paperwork that you signed, there is a form called "contingent financing form" which states that the car is given to you pending financing. From what you state, it sounds like the bank would not finance the vehicle. There could be a number of reasons for this. However, I am sure you can understand that a car dealer cannot sell a car without being paid. I am sorry you were not able to purchase the Grand Am, but I invite you to return to the dealership to see if financing might now be available. Please contact me for specifics and also about refunding your $90.
