Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

Darryl Smith, of Warner Robins,GA, contacted me about an automobile engine he was selling.  I had never met him, so I was a little leary.  I was in the Atlanta area (about 120 miles from his location), so I asked for referrals.  He gave me a couple numbers.  One of the referrals seemed genuine and gave him a very good review.  He then sent a picture of the engine I needed and said he could deliver it within 24 hours.

After exchanging almost 80 emails with him, I felt he was most likely legitimate.  (He threw around terms like "I'll be at a church function."  "I have been blessed, so I want to bless someone else."  here and there).   I foolishly made a $320 down payment on the engine and then he gave me a phone # of his delivery driver. That # was (229) 231-3648  (a south GA phone #).  The engine was supposedly on it's way to me.  Then Darryl wanted his 2nd payment.  I kept putting it off saying I needed to see the engine first.

He got a little to high pressure wanting the 2nd payment, and that's when I realized I was being scammed.  The driver was getting close to my area and even gave me Exit #'s on the highway, which seemed somewhat credible.  Then, out of the blue, the driver said his son got sick and had to go to the hospital.  He would deliver the engine in the morning.  Darryl, of course, said he had to go out of town and needed the second payment first thing in the morning.

I didn't believe him, so I never paid it.  Then the calls and emails stopped.  No more contact from them and no engine.   When I contacted Darryl a few days later, I just got a reply message saying it was his father and the message said, "Darryl committed suicide last night.  I just got his belongings from the cops."     I checked and there was no death reports for a Darryl Smith during this time frame.   It was all a big, elaborate scam.

So save yourself the hassle and your money and don't do business with a Darryl Smith (786 area code) over the internet. One thing that confused the issue a little, is there was a legitimate Darryl Smith in south GA that did own or manage a junkyard with auto parts and this scammer Darryl was kind of stealing his good reputation to create an elaborate scam.  I don't know what was lower:   using God's name throughout his entire scam, wasting tons of my time, stealing my money or lying about his death?  Very low down guy to go that far for a few bucks.
