Yes, there is some justice left in the world. It is true. My father just came out of a week long 87 hour working arrangement with the illustrious Mr. Garden. My dad was offered 700.00 a week for rehab work on houses that Mr. Garden owns. Now, I don't know if you have your calculators handy, but that ain't a whole lot of dough for rehab work. The arrangement started, as my dad learned all of Mr. Garden's deals seem to, with promises and claims that soon started looking bad for the unsuspecting poor sap who happened to cross Mr. Garden's path that day. My dad saw that Mr. Garden wasn't on the good side of the Housing Athourity, the Health Department, or the City Inspector. Fortunately for Mr. Garden, my dad had good working relationships with these people from past work experience. He felt like he would be a valuable asset to Mr. Garden, and felt better about earning 700.00 a week to "supervise work crews and get these houses to pass inspection so they can be sold". Before you could say "Jumpin Jack Flash" 87 work hours, 7 days, and 2 passed inspections had gone by and my dad was being told he was only getting 500.00 and was only going to be doing piece work. In truth, my dad was instructed to ignore what the inspectors wanted and tell them what they wanted to hear until they left. Then it was forget about that and go and do this. No, don't go over there and fix that 70 year-old woman's heat, she'll be fine. Yeah, until she calls my dad with her teeth chattering, after sitting in a freezing cold house last weekend with no heat. That was the day after my dad told Mr. Garden where he could stick his 500.00 and went straight to the city inspector's with all the dirt he had seen in a week. The city wants to initiate a class action lawsuit against Mr. Garden and the police are involved to the point that Mr. Garden is on his way to jail for residential burglary, along with his buddy that already has arrest warrants on him. So stay tuned, there'll be more.
