Please be warned of a scam on birdsnow.com where a woman who poses as Delphi from Pennsylvania and Mathielda from NorthCarolina has posted 2 ads trying to sell 2 baby eclectus parrots. The ad from PA states she is selling them for $300 & the ad from NC states she is selling them for $320. When i contacted the woman via email to show interest (since the ad seemed way too good to be true....after all, a baby eclectus easily sells for over $1200, let alone one that claims to also come with a brand new medium sized cage and all the accesssories free of charge), she advised me that she lives in Boston, MA where she moved to receive cancer treatment at a nearby hospital & I would need to get the bird(s) ASAP. She said the birds have been her companions & she just wants them in a loving home because she can't care for them anymore due to her illness. She asked if I would send updates on them to her and asked me where exactly i lived. I told her i lived in Buffalo and that i would drive 7 hr to Boston next weekend to meet the bird(s) & could she please send me her address. This is where the majority of red flags pop up and i knew this was a scam. She proceeds to ask me if i have Facebook because it will be easier to communicate thru FB instead of email. I gave her my name (stupidly) & she said she would send me a FB request. I get a FB request, which i thankfully did not confirm, from a woman named Azida Oceana. A follow up email comes to me from Delphi stating that she just sent me a friend request using her sister, Azida's, FB. Azida claims to live in Canada. Being suspicious, i pretend to still be interested & rather than confirm her facebook friend request, i email her back & say i am unable to get on my FB because i was currently at work but i would ss soon as i got home. I continued to ask her if i could please have her address so i could plug it into my GPS & that way i could find out exactly how long it would take me to drive from my house to hers. She responded by saying we will discuss all that when we talk on FB. I immediately deleted her facebook friend request but many hours later she sent me another request! My thoughts are she wants to get into my facebook profile and steal my photos and other personal identification. The emails that she sent were written in very bad broken English. As if she was from a foreign country (Nigeria maybe?). I have reported her ads on birdsnow & hope nobody falls victim to her scam. If she was a true parrot owner, she would not be selling these expensive birds for that cheap, nor would she have duplicate ads showing the same photos, the same language & same email address but with 1 coming from PA & the other coming from NC. I only posted the ad from PA but here is the link to the similar ad out of NC so u can compare the 2 http://www.birdsnow.com/bird-ad-499676 Be careful of this scam!
