On April 22, 2005 I had ordered round trip ticket for my wife and I from Phoenix, Arizona to Cancun Mexico. Due to hurricane Emily we were forced to cancel our trip.

On July 19, 2005 I called to cancel the trip and we spoke with Kelly Smith from Dallas Texas who told us that we must reschedule by April 22, 2006 to avoid a fee.

On March 18, 2006 I called Delta reservation and spoke with Charles from Salt Lake City Utah and he informed us that the tickets must be used before July 21, 2006 and stated that the tickets can be used domestically as well as internationally if we wished. We then told Charles that we would be using the tickets in July and he stated that he notated our call.

On May 27, 2006 I called Delta reservations again and talked to Boris Zalec to schedule our vacation and he informed us that the tickets were expired on April 22, 2006 and that there were no notations put into the system by Charles regarding our rescheduling conversation that we had on March 18,2005.

As you can plainly see we had done our part to avoid losing our flight and money but a Delta representative had made a clerical mistake which cost us our tickets.

I look forward to hearing from you. I hope you can respond within 30 days, so that we are able to resolve this problem in a speedy fashion.

The policy is pretty clear

No matter what Charles told you, it's one year from the date of issue. That's standard in the industry. I don't doubt that Charles told you July 21 2006 though. He probably didn't give a crap and just wanted you off the phone. Typical. You just can't rely on these people. The policy is stated clearly on the website. Didn't you check? As an experienced traveler, I NEVER rely on the word of an airline employee. I ALWAYS go to the website if I have a question. In addition I'm amongst the 1% of the population who actually reads and understands the "Rules of Carriage". If more people did this, there wouldn't be all of the complaints against the airlines. I have yet to see a valid complaint on this site against an airline based on what is stated on the airlines website. The airlines have it all covered. Sorry you lost your money, but now it will never happen again.
