I ordered my ticket online using my Skymiles on Feb 15,2008. I was sent a confirmation stating "Your Award Ticket is Confirmed." Shortly before my flight on 3/27 I received an email asking me to check-in online which I tried unsuccessfully to do. When I called Delta I was told no ticket had been issued and I would have to pay the $75 per ticket late reservation. After explaining the situation the supervisor saw that the error was Deltas not mine and she said she would waive the fee. I thanked her and asked again that she confirm I would only be charged $10 per ticket and she said "That is correct, $10 per ticket - $20 total."

After returning from my trip I received a bill from Delta for an additional $75 per ticket charged to my credit card. I called back and went through the whole story again but was told by the service agent and then her supervisor that I would have to pay the $150 extra because I ordered the ticket late. I reminded them the error was theirs and that I had a written confirmation proving my ticket was purchased in time to avoid the penalty but they still refused. Each person I contacted at Delta kept saying they were sorry I was unhappy with them but that they did not issue refunds.

So here I am with a confirmation in my hand proving I bought my ticket on time but Delta still charging me for buying it at a later date due to an error in their system that accidentally deleted my ticket. Their reason for not issuing a refund is simply, "Our system is not set up to issue refunds."

Delta doesn't care...

I missed connections due to their own problems, and then they wouldn't keep our family together on other flights. I wrote a letter to complain and I got a canned letter in response that didn't address anything. They have their own "passenger bill of rights" but they won't follow it. I don't fly on Delta anymore for that reason. Good luck!

Get a lawyer...

I've never flown before, so I've never had anything to do with any airline before, but maybe consult a lawyer (one that doesn't charge for consultations) and see what they can do for you. Make sure you save the proof you have including proof they charged you and said they wouldn't. If you're lucky, some places will settle just to avoid the lawsuit, so just retaining a lawyer and starting the process will get a response...and if it does go to court, you usually get lawyer fees paid back by them...good luck
