Must say first, how alarming it is to find this Rip-Off Report on my Google pg. after some 7 yrs. Clearly I should have taken issue with this some time ago. Regarding the business, I have moved on but, not before The Knota prestigious wedding magazineawarded DESTINY WEDDINGS OF KEY WEST the 2010 Brides Choice for Best of Weddings in South Florida. Feel free to check that out on www.theknot.com.
The wedding referred to in this Rip-Off Report, I do consider a personal tragedy on many levels.
First and foremost, I never should have taken their wedding. When a bride-to-be is not happy at our first meeting, I know NOW, is a red flag. Besides that, my weddings were designed as an online business and the rates were absolutely as low as possible--the destination wedding just as sweet and simple as possible. I meet you @ the beach (95%) w/bouquet and champagne, as you wish. This was popular because coming/staying in Key West was expensive enough AND the idea was to leave them enough $$ for the honeymoon!! Meetings were not really budgeted in that Wedding Pkg. price tag. All that is largely why I would option to meet my couples someplace where they could maximize their precious time in Key West--at some fun place where it was easier for me to find them than otherwise. I did have a lovely patio office.
On the issue of communication, it did take an amazingly long time to contact anyone @ West Martello Towers about their pending weddingwhich is why it took me so long to get back to the couple. As they mentioned, Martello Towers was devastated by Hurricane Wilma. This devastation was shared by everyone living in New Town of Key West and the rest of the FL Keys. The flood that was a result of Wilma had amazing repercussions. Just charging a cell phone was difficult for me and I was lucky to have had just less than 3 ft. of water in my house. Also might mention, we all had to replace refrigerators and other appliances. That took a while--it's a long way to the end of that road.
The deposit for the wedding site, West Martello Tower, was NOT spent by me. It was given to West Martello as the deposit for the site. In all honesty, I do not remember if I contacted them about the return of that deposit. Seriouslymy bad.
About my car they said was damagedreally, it was totaled, as was my previous car by Hurricane Katrina less than 2 months prior to Wilma. Actually, Wilma took the record book on vehicular deathstens of thousands in the FL Keys, according to Wikipedia.
Whole bottom line isif Hurricane Wilma had not been so badtheir wedding would have been one of the almost 500 weddings I managed beautifully. I simply could not/cannot understand their lack of understanding. It hurts me still.
