I enrolled at DeVry Orlando, Florida last May 2007 and was a victim of a disgruntled student who threatened my life on a public discussion site since she didn't want to participate in a mandatory group project. She voluntarily joined our group in the 1st week of the 8 week session in an English course. My Professor, Deans, administrators were all aware of the continued threats this student posted on the school public discussion site and on campus grounds but didn't intervene so I ended up having to quit their University for my safety and others hoping to prevent another campus tragedy like Virginia Tech., etc. Since I didnt return to complete my courses for safety precautions after their lack of concern for student safety on campus; I am now unable to repay the loans which DeVry received as payment.

Beside that incident, I had an EET instructor teaching a CIS course who labeled our class as guinea pigs in an email he sent me since he was new to teaching at DeVry and not familiar with the course he was assigned to teach. Some of the gaming students were teaching him a core class for the CIS course during class. I feel DeVry did not follow through in delivering a high quality education with qualified instructors which they promised upon my enrollment at this facility.

A relevant co-operative CIS education was not in place at this campus as promised since DeVry had recently replaced the CIS Dean and instructors after sustaining a high drop out rate of students. The term "cleaned house was often expressed by several staff members and students concerning the problems at DeVry.

I am a 47 year old single mom of two who strived for my only chance at a college education to be able to better provide for my childrens needs and to assist them in the future to achieve their own college education. I spoke with the several Deans, administrators, etc. at DeVry after much procrastination by the staff to set appointments and meetings to promptly resolve these issues. All I received in return were excuses and promises for better safety measures and qualified instructors in the future. The student making the threats continued contacting me and DeVrys answer was to change my email and phone number. They could not ensure my safety on their campus and my car was also damaged on their property but I was unable to prove who did it as there were no witnesses.

DeVry of Orlando Florida did not provide the high-quality education which they promised upon my enrollment and focused more on their business prospects than the students educational needs or the safety concerns on their school property. A students main concern should be their education and studies without having to spend wasted hours trying to make appointments with administrative staff to resolve major problems that needed to be addressed before another tragic school incident occurs. I now have about $7000.00 in student loans which I cannot afford to re-pay including my personal investment without receiving the college education I hoped to achieve as a dedicated student. DeVry has taken away all my dreams and the only opportunity I had of attaining my college degree. I am appealing to anyone who can help me get DeVry to refund my loans in full to hopefully still have some chance to go to a reliable state funded community college.

Kathy- I am sorry to hear of the threats and danger you were in. Did you contact the Orlando Police? You should have contacted an attorney as well. Perhaps if the staff at DeVry received communication from an attorney, they would have realized you meant business. I'm not trying to discount your experience or blame you in any way. The staff was negligent and I think you should try to sue them for the way they handled the incident or lack thereof. I think all colleges and universities, public and private, have instructors who have no business being there. There are good and bad instructors at any school. I have attended FMU and Valencia CC and had my share of wonderful and terrible instructors. If you were dissatisfied with the class, did you consider dropping it or switching to a different course section? As far as a refund, they will only give you a refund if you withdrew from school within the specified drop period. Other than that, you are stuck and must repay the loans. I am stuck paying for FMU loans and got nothing out of it.
