US Treasury has people on SS or SSI to start using a debit card, unfortuately the debit card pin number is not secured. Ex: if you would loose your debit card and have the 800 number on the card anyone can go into the 800 number and request an pin number change and get into your debit card. Other information the Direct express debit card system does not interface with the social security database. I am a designated payee for my 16 year old grandson, Direct Express put the debit card in my under age grandsons name, and unfortunately when you call Direct Express to complain about the mishap of someone changing the pin number and getting into his account they would not talk to me because they wanted permission from the 16 year old grandson. That is when Direct Express customer servi ce rep and I had a few words after finding out the SS database and the Direct Express database do not interface. Someone had taken my grandsons debit card and refused to return it. I had went in and changed the pin number thinking I had secured the account. Well that didn't happen because the pin number can be changed over the phone and get into the account. I advise anyone thinking of getting an Express Debit Card from the US Treasury and have their SS or SSI benefits put on the card, think twice. I am cancelling both cards my SS and my grandsons SSI Debit card when all the mess is corrected and just have every thing going direct deposit to my checking account. I had used the Direct Express I thought for conveneinece un known that it was not secured.
