I signed up for DirecTV Satellite services around march 2007 and they ask me for a deposit of $200.00 and 1 year contract. They told me that this was a deposit and that it would be returned to me at the end of the contract.
I canceled their services at 9th month, and they charged me a fee for canceling the contract and the balance then was around $230.00. They never applied my deposit to my balance; and they have said that the $200.00 that I paid was not a deposit, instead it was a fee because I did not have a long credit history. Which means that they mislead me making me think it was a deposit and I could get it back, just to get the services.
I have file a report to the BBB but they never really helped me, DirecTV sent a rebuttal stating that it was a fee. and that I was liable for the 230 dollars. they sent me to collection for months until I decided to pay it.
On 8/12/2008 Nationwide Credit inc. (the collection company) convinced me to make a payment to DirecTV that with extra fee's was: $265.00. That payment was processed on 8/12/2008 and it appears in my bank statement as paid to:

On 9/15/08 I received a letter from another collection agency trying to collect
300.00 for DirecTV Inc. I called DirecTV and they told me that they never received my payment. I checked my credit report and they are still reporting me as being liable for that payment.
I've sent them letters and faxes with proof that I Paid but they havent answered. When I speak to them on the phone they tell me that they will call me back in 24 hours, but they never do.
Please help me, I already paid this and they keep reporting me to the Credit Reporting Agency.

send the information you have to your Attorney General's office and the AG where DirecTV's corporate office is located. You may also wish copy the same paperwork to DirecTV's corporate office, to the collection agency you originally paid AND to the collection company that is attempting to collect from you. Please be sure that any information you send to DirecTV and the collection companies do not have your signature or your bank account numbers. Good luck.
