Pete Richmire - Discount Spas Northwest used hot tub rip off scheme Tacoma Washington
I responded to a classified as for a used hot tub on March 10, 2004. I went to Mr. Richmire's "shop" in a storage rental unit in Fircrest. He showed me a tub he said he had completely refurbished and tested. He said it was not sold yet, but probably would be by the end of the day. I agreed to purchase it and wrote a check.
The following week, he missed our delivery appointment and rescheduled. Then he missed the second date. I discovered ripoffreport.com and called him once again to tell him it sounded like I too was being ripped off like Autumn (the first complaint). He assured me that he was not ripping anyone off, he had repaid her money and he would deliver my tub the following week.
The third delivery appointment was also missed, he claimed someone had broken into his storage unit and stole his hot tubs. Several people complained to the media and the local news channel followed up. He told the reporters- straight to the camera- that he was "overbooked" and that everyone would received their hot tub.
One victim posted an ad in the paper urging other victims to contact her to make a case for prosecution. She bought the exact same tub that I did, THE DAY BEFORE.
Now he is filing bankruptcy. A prosecution case will soon be filed.
