In September of 2006, Gutter Guardian/Dixie Homecrafters installed 10 windows in my house at a cost of $13,000. I thought this was a very reputable company. After inspection of their work, I noticed large gaps in the woodwork around the windows.
I call the office and they sent out a man to caulk the gaps. His work was very poor and caulk was smeared all over the gaps. Of course it was not the same color as the paint and I called back to see if they would come back out and clean up/ sand the area and repaint. They told me that was not their job and refused to do it.
Later, when the weather turned cold, I noticed the area with the windows was cold and since it was close to the thermostat, the heating unit ran more than usual. I called again and they sent someone out on a warm day and they said they could see no problem.
in summer I again noticed the area hotter than the rest of the house. I called again and they sent out a supervisor and he said the same thing, no problem.
These windows are triple pane and let in a lot of glare, which according to the sales pitch, wouldn't happen. I can't have them tinted since they are tripple pane. I put put up a fan blind and found several gapping holes letting in heat and cold. The holes were caulked and the house now holds a more even temperature.
i feel the windows were very over priced, shoddy workmanship, the company didn't stand behind their work, and my electric bills have cost me more. I have a cloudy window that needs to be replaced, but the company is out of business, so I am stuck with a bad window.
