We have been searching for a used car for our 16-year-old daughter and thought we had found the perfect car at Don Wood Hyundai. It was over a 2-hour drive for us to get to the dealership so they knew if we came that far that we were going to buy the car. During the drive there the sales manager Phil Coffman called us and said that the brakes were bad and that he planned on knocking off another $200 of the car. So it begins.

The car drove okay, but there were a few sounds that should not have been there. But there were NO warning lights on the dash and I checked the engine codes and there were NO error codes stored in the car's computer. So that told me that either the car was okay or their service department had reset the codes on the car. There is a dead giveaway that I figured out AFTER I got the car home and the dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree!

One day after driving the car home the check engine light came on. The code it is showing is a P0420, bad catalytic converter. We have taken it to a few local repair shops and the repair is about $1200.00! Needless to say, this is a very expensive repair for only owning the car for two days! Had they not reset the computer codes I would have found this when I was looking at the car and NOT bought it and saved myself a headache!

Now they are denying that there was a problem with the car but did offer to give us money back to use towards the repair. He offered up a whopping $100.00. Wow! So we're out the $5000 for the car and another $1200 in a repair and they want to help by giving us $100.00. Really?

On top of this, he also told me that his service department installed new tie rods on both sides and made repairs totaling over $600. After further investigation by my mechanic, tie rods were replaced on one side and the repair is more than a year old. Once again, lied to by Don Wood Hyundai.

The cashiers check we took to the dealership was for the exact dollar amount. Since he was going to give us a credit of $200 towards the brakes, they said that they would mail us a check for that amount and they haven't even done that! It has been almost two weeks and no check, no phone calls, no extra $100, nothing. They think that since I live 2 hours away that I am going to just go away. But I am not. I am STUCK with a car that is going to cost me more than if I had gone down the street from where I live and bought it from a local dealer and overpaid!

Don Wood Hyundai needs to be careful. People now know that they RESET THE COMPUTER ERRORS in the used cars they are selling!

GO somewhere else to buy your car! This is a BUYER BEWARE WARNING! TAKE IT TO YOUR MECHANIC FIRST IF YOU CAN!

I have copies of ALL EMAIL communication where the sales manager told me total price and the amount that he reduced the car after knocking off $200 more for the bad brakes. I have everything documented but they don't seem to care! STAY AWAY FROM DON WOOD HYUNDAI
