Ducane Default on "paid for" lifetime warranty. Shame on Weber-Stephens Grill Company. Barnwell South Carolina
In on December 19, 2002 I purchased a Ducane Model 2004SHNE gas grill. This grill came with a five year warranty and an option to purchase a limited lifetime warranty for the sum of $15.00, which I did on January 2, 2003. About two months ago, May 2007, I discovered that two of the parts covered under both of these warranties were in need of replacement.
At the time of purchase I paid $579.00 for, what most would consider a modest size grill with limited features. I paid this much because of the Ducane reputation, especially the lifetime warranty option. Today, four and a half years later, I can purchase a much larger grill with more options and stainless steel to boot.
When I contacted customer support, via the Ducane 1-800 number I was told by the company representative that Weber-Stephens had bought out Ducane and the parts were no longer available. What an outrage! Here is an existing grill manufacturer that purchased the assetts of Ducane Products, is marketing under the good name of Ducane and now fails to honor commitments of that company. While enjoying the profits of that companies good name they fail to assume any of their liabilitiesl.
I am not an attorney, or am I well versed in product liabily. Plain and simple, if one profits from the good name of an existing company they should also stand behind the product they are profiting from, or should I say profiteering, from. Shame on Weber-Stephens!
