In the sales presentation, we were told that El Cid would sell another time share we had that we were not using and then rent out our points through the Christmas and New Years Holiday weeks to pay for the balance of the contract after our initial deposit. Since we were in Mazatlan in May, the payment was not due until January of 2009.

As the due date grew closer, I began to call the sales person, Manuel Altamirano, to make sure that all was going as he said it would. I was assured that this was the case each time I called. However, we were still getting statements that did not show any rentals happening.

I then began to send e-mails to the sales manager, Mr. Eisenman, expressing my concerns. I again was assured that all was well. At this time, I began to research El Cid on the internet more thoroughly and found many reports of deceptive sales practices happening to other people.

We happened to be in Mazatlan on a cruise in January and dropped in on Mr. Altamirano to try and get some answers. At this time, he said he would contact the company El Cid used to handle the rental/sales and find out why the rentals had not happened. Also, he gave us the name and number of that company.

When I called this company, the gentleman in charge of our account said that Mr. Altamirano had no legal right to rent our points or sell our other timeshare. We had to request that service ourselves and pay extra money to the timeshare resale company to get this done. This was never mentioned in the original sales presentation or any communications with El Cid afterwords.

Needless to say, we are now taking legal action against El Cid.

I've spent a lot of money and i was scammed by other companies trying to cancel my timeshare.

My advice is that if you're going to hire a company to help you with the problem, DO NOT PAY ANYTHING UPFRONT, because it use to be a fraud.

I did a research on internet and i found some interesting articles, i recommend you to read this one:

Please read my report I posted on 8/6/09 as another of El Cid's victims!

Please read what I wrote. Maybe it will give you some suggestions to fight these "Pirates of the Pacific." They are getting desperate enough to resort to criminal tactics now. Use any and all avenues to continue to expose them, and if they try to call you, make them put everything they say in writing. I now know how to tell when they are lying...it's when their lips are moving! Seriously.

Diane We are in the same position as you. We're starting down the road with Profeco but not sure where it will lead. In the meantime I'm going to create my own website focused on El Cid Vacation Club practices. If you want your story to be included please respond to this post Jamie, Kelowna

El Cid Nightmare

#6Consumer Suggestion

I have come to a roadblock with El Cid so I was about to start with Profeco and others but I am reading on Ripoff that others have already gone there with no success. I would like Ripoff to connect all of us to discuss our El Cid experiences and then I think we should offer our stories to W5 or Dateline or any other documentary that will listen. We need to get the word out there that El Cid Vacations lies and is a scam and we need to protect any other travellers from getting sucked in to this nightmare. Diane
