Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
Empire Moving Services of Michigan is a terrible, unprofessional, & very shady company. When I made an appointment to hire their movers, I was told 3 movers would be coming. I was NEVER told that there was a minimum rate/charge of 3 hours.
The day I was moving, only 2 movers arrived. They had no explanation for the absence of the third mover. They were very unprofessional in their manner & dress. They were not wearing uniforms & looked very sloppy.
The movers moved a few of my furniture items. Then they proceeded to move my desk & broke it into 4 different pieces. Their explanation was: "this happens all the time, this furniture isn't meant to be moved, we used to have people sign a waiver but now it's too common". If the desk was "not meant to be moved", the professional thing to do would be to inform me of that, instead of just proceed to destroy it. My husband and I would have happily disassembled & moved the desk ourselves if we knew it was going to be broken. We had to buy a new desk & assemble it ourselves at a cost of $100.
The movers "finished" the job in 1 hour and 50 minutes. Instead of telling me that I had to pay for 3 hours no matter what, they overcharged me & left as fast as they could. The professional thing to do would be to inform me about this minimum charge right away. It should have been communicated to me on the phone when I made the original appointment.
I discovered I had been overcharged and should have only paid for 2 hours work. I called and spoke to Robert, the boss, a few times. He was extremely unprofessional & clearly has no knowledge of business or customer service. He even hung up on me.
Robert gave me the same explanation about the desk. I told him the movers should have told me about the desk rather than breaking it. I also told him that I was charged for an hour of work that was never done. I wanted the money I was overcharged refunded to me. He refused to refund any of my money, both what I was overcharged & the cost of the broken desk. He claimed that his movers did tell me their was a three-hour minimum. Of course this never happened because if I had been informed of this AT ANY POINT, I would have made sure to get the 3 hours of work that I paid for.
Robert refused to refund me any of the money, even just half of what I was overcharged. As a result I have to inform the Better Business Bureau, anyone on the internet reading movers' reviews, & possibly take them to small claims court. I hope that my actions result in this company losing enough business to cost them the amount they overcharged me & more.
