Thought I would repost here under the Canadian across-the-border category.
I was just ripped off by these scamsters in the last few days.
Same routine, responded to ad for Help Desk people, got the questionaire, got the call from "Lisa", got the e-mail from "Melanie Paquette" with the "offer" of $42k per year.
Stupidly, I went ahead and filled out the paperwork and sent the freakin' money order for $75 PLUS a copy of my birth certificate (DOH!)
What a deep scam this one is...I mean multiple e-mails from 2 different "people" (probably the same person) and the phone call, all to get a relatively small dollar amount and personal information. Bizarre.
Please post below any information and suggestions you have, along with any and all phone numbers for reporting these "people" and any ideas on what to do next.

Sheldon, if you can please contact me... call affordable auto rental in Mesa. I was duped by this scam and actually contacted by Mark Varab after I had found out... I played along a little and he told me he would be needing my passport. I mentioned fears of a scam and he immediately said if I had doubts about the company he would send all my info back including the money order. Well they still have my identity, but I am anxious to see if they send the package back.. The folks at Mailboxes Etc. in Canada were very helpful (905)878-5955. I have contacted the FBI here in Phoenix and the cops in Canada. I have also put a track on the International money order I sent, listing employment fraud as the reason. Hopefully these scam artists get the message. This scam is over and they better send my stuff back with the money. I had even applied for a US passport and I am willing to spend the money to travel to Canada and testify. I am furious!

The police agency handling this case is the Halton Regional Police. They can be reached at 905-825-4747. The MBE center is now stopping all mail from being received by these crooks while the HRP is obtaining evidenciary warrants, so, if you are like me and didn't mail your info and money until recently, these crooks will not get it. YOU REALLY SHOULD CALL THIS POLICE AGENCY AND REPORT THE RIPOFF IF YOU ARE A VICTIM OR AN ATTEMPTED VICTIM.

More information: The address these ripoffs give for their location is, in fact, a Mail Boxes, Etc. location where they have rented a P.O. Box. I have contacted the owner of this store as well as the Milton OPP (Police Dept) and will be following up tomorrow with the detectives assigned to the case. I will be talking to my local post office as well as the Canadian postal authorities tomorrow as well. These people are DEAD MEAT. I hope they enjoy prison.
