They have it online where you can make a reservation for a car ahead of time, and just asks you to provide WHICH credit card you are using. I type in Discover, next thing I see is a page saying "Your reservation has been made!" I had the confirmation code.

I brought it to the Baton Rouge Airport to get my car, only to be denied in public stating that my credit card limit is too small, and do I have a debit card. I was so heated that I said nothing and walked away frowned up. I should have told them that they falsely told me I was approved online. I even showed her the confirmation code. They need to revise their web page to where they approve your credit online and spare you the embarrassment in public.

Actually Mike not all car rental agencies charge a deposit on top of the rental cost. Check out National Car Rental or Alamo Car Rental. And all there polices can be found on their website under FAQ'S.

The Enterprise website is as the original complaint described. You select the type of major credit card you have but it never says anything about needing a certain amount of available credit. One might believe you only need enough to cover the rental cost. That is completely wrong. The cost of the rental will not be charged that until the end of the contract, and you can then use a debit card or other payment to pay it. Actually all rental car places take the credit card number and authorize a higher amount, $300 or more, in case you don't return the car on time. This is not explained by Enterprise. Some locations do take debit cards if you don't have a suitable credit card. You have to have plenty of money behind that debit card though as they will remove $300 or more from your bank account and hold it like a cash deposit until the car is returned.

...there are some car rental agencies that will accept a debit card for rental. The condition to this would be that you would need to have a round trip transportation ticket. And also not all car rental companies require a deposit on top of the rental cost. Just thought you should know!

I give up. What does "frowned up" mean? That's true though. Just because you have a credit card doesn't mean you qualify under their rules and regulations. If it doesn't have anything on their website about the requirements, it should.

You should have read all the fine print......

......in the terms of use or policy. It is basic knowledge that car rental places do not take debit cards. And you need to have enough of a credit limit to cover all charges and fees.

Didn't you have some idea what the car rental would cost?

There should have been some estimated cost for renting the vehicle for the time you were looking for. You should have made sure there was enough available credit to cover it. A reservation simply means that a car will be available for you when you arrive to rent it. It doesn't mean you will end up with the actual car you chose or that they will rent it if your card is declined. Perhaps you didn't realize that car rental companies reserve a certain amount above what the rental will actually cost until you return the vehicle. In any event, you should have made sure there was ample available credit to rent the vehicle. Seems you caused your own embarassment and not Enterprise. They didn't tell you that you were approved, merely told you that the vehicle was reserved. There is a difference.
