Enterprise Car Rental makes a practice of renting cars with little or no gas in the tank, making it the obligation of the customer to fill 'er up. And when the car is returned with more gas than it was rented with, Enterprise reaps the benefit.

A *VERY* nice manager (Mike) at the Germantown, MD location explained that he's basically stuck with this practice and "can't afford" to fill the cars with gas. But a reputable rental company will, ** of course **, only rent cars with a full tank of gas, or so I'd thought. On the contrary, at Enterprise, if it'll roll of the lot and into a gas station, that's apparently "good enough" - the customer is left paying the bill and filling Enterprise's tank(s).

But that's NOT the customer's job! That's Enterprises job! Are they going to pay the customer to fill their tanks? Ha! Are they going to pay the customer to do their job for them? Ha! They don't even want to pay their own employees to do this!

In my particular case, I was stuck trying to time the return of my rental with the completion of repairs to my personal car - not easy to do! And why should I have to?! Rent me a car with gas in it! I'll bring it back full! Easy! But no! I'm popping 10 bucks a day into the tank of the rental not knowing when my personal car will be ready for me. If I'm renting a car, I'm paying for a convenience, not a burden to do somebody else's job! Not an inconvenience! Enterprise should do as Avis does and some of these other good names in the car rental industry. They should rent cars with a full tank! Or AT LEAST something substantially more than almost empty! Ugh! Highly unprofessional!

Thanks to "Mike" at Germantown for patiently hearing my grievances and for agreeing to "square things up with me". But shame on Enterprise for lapsing into such a low-brow state of slovenly business ethic. You really look bad on account of this "policy". You cannot save money by screwing your customers this way. By and by, you'll loose much more than you'll gain. In fact, I personally will not be doing business with you again!

I have gone to enterprise in germantown maybe 6 times since own 2 mercedes and I have had nothing but great experiences. Mike, who has never said gettia word about stealing gas money has been so helpful. I even get to pick out which exact car I want for the day. Plus, hello, the gas station is like 100 feet from the place. Get over it. Pay the gas money you know you owe and pick up your car. and saying "its not my job to put gas in the car". Well, then dont and sit in the parking lot. is it really that worth it to make mike look bad when he is objective and fair always. you are paying 10 a day for gas? So you expect VIP service? Do you even own a mercedes which the entecorprise is connected to. Your issues are wierd and silly and I actually am getting a car there today while mine is getting detailed. I requested a grey rental.

I had a terrible time with Enterprise myself - they are crooks! They tried to bill me $1.00 per mile for returning a car to the location it was rented from when they told me I could drop it off in Scottsdale. AZ. At no time before I took the keys did they ever mention this "fee" even though we were very specific that we would change to a larger car down the road. We were on a timetable and were already behind schedule. It was NOT included in the WRITTEN CONTRACT EITHER !! Our car had broken down while on a BUSINESS road trip and we had to leave it a dealership for repairs while we continued on our trip. When you can - avoid them at all costs
