My husband and I have been involved with Equicredit and then Fairbanks for the last 4 years. We had gone into bankruptcy because of my husband's health, but arrangements after two years were made and a suitable agreement was put on paper for us to keep our house and pay back arrears owed.

When Equicredit was taken over by Fairbanks trouble once again came to us. First a letter from a lawyer was sent saying that our payments were not being made since 2001. We immediately provided proof with cancelled checks and bank statements to our lawyer. We had to go to court with this and pay unneccessary lawyers' fees.

Everything was in good order and the case should have been dropped. I said it should have been dropped, but of course dealing with Fairbanks is not that easy. We have been trying to refinance with another company.

Our situation was explained to them and they said that they could help. When we requested a payoff notice from Fairbanks, they were still insisting that payments were delinquent since 2001. Now this company is still waiting since January to hear from them.

They are redoing our whole loan, bankruptcy and mortgage together. We thought this would be great, but to our dismay Fairbanks is screwing the whole thing up. I made two payments to them and still have not received my cancelled checks or notification that they even accepted my payments. My insurance was put with the new company to take over my mortgage and I am not even sure where to send my mortgage payments anymore.

When you call them, no one will talk to you. Especially us because we are in bankruptcy. When I finally get through to someone, I get switched from department to department. And even if I am lucky to get to talk to one person, they don't ever have any answers for me.

I came across this site regarding Equicredit/Fairbanks by accident and I was so happy that I did. I came to realize that I am not alone in any of my situations. So many people are being screwed around by these two companies that I wonder how they are still in business. If anyone can help us or let us know what to do, please contact me.
