This is a piece I picked up somewhere on the Internet. After reading all the complaints about 'Cavalier Salvage' and other "surplus vendors" it seemed to explain the overall scheme of things. As it explains, by the time the 'shelf pulls', etc., filter down to the small time buyers, there's nothing left but unsaleable junk. (That's even IF you receive ANYTHING.) ****************************** WE STRONGLY ADVISE AGAINST RETURNS!! They are all being processed or cherry picked, no matter what you are told. Just because some broker tells you that they come from the distribution center and are untouched, it is NOT true. What a piece of absolute hogwash. While IN the distribution center (DC), these are being scanned and the best is retained. They are scanned because the original store needs this information. If more can be earned from selling the better stuff to outlet malls or discount stores, well...that is better for the bottom line. We know of many companies who buy these "better" and rework them. They clean, fold and repack, retag, & even blister or re-blister pack, and sell to large closeout stores (T-J Max comes to mind). These are scanners, asset recovery, or reverse logistics companies. Some chain stores have their own asset recovery arms. We KNOW that there are four levels. The first gets cased goods and perfect stuff, the second gets the middle stream, the guy from Timbuktu get the dregs and then there is the absolute scrap. If you are new to this and just starting up, well, guess what you get? It doesn't matter if you wire on your hard-earned $5,10,15,000. It does not mean a thing to most of these companies. Forget customer service. You are not a real customer. You are "walking pockets". If you complain, you will get no more or will get worse the next time or perhaps you will get unusable "credits". If you have the money or credit line to take 10-45 trucks a month, well, maybe you can get the second stream. We know some of the second stream is by invitation only. The first stream goes to the processing company to do something with it. They usually have their own stores or have an "A" list of customers who are family, close friends, or part of that good ol' boy network. USF Processors works the Sam's Club pulls and returns like this. The best goes into their outlet stores. JPA in WA has 33% this deal. Processors get 33%. At one time the pallets were shipped directly to you from individual stores. Shipping included. It was really great stuff. You paid 22-28%. But not now. You pay shipping from Dallas (if you buy through Processors) and you pay up to 48% for second or perhaps third stream.
