I just got off the phone with evacationflorida.com, and I received the same exact offer as the one stated above (except that it was for $298, not $398). After telling me all about the offer, they immediately asked for my credit card. This put me off, as I am not comfortable giving away my credit card information over the phone, especially if I did not make first contact. I told the salesperson (I wish I had gotten his name) that I'm not sure if this would fit into my budget, hoping that they would give up. Boy, was I wrong.
I was then given to a "customer retention specialist" who told me that I could go on a payment plan, and that they could even cut the cost in half. I told them that I still would prefer to think about it, to which he asked "What's there to think about?" I told him that I prefered not to give out my credit card information over the phone, especially if it's someone I did not make first contact. At this point, he began to raise his voice, and he told me that I DID make first contact, because I filled out a survey saying I would be interested in a vacation to Universal.
He then said, "First you don't have enough money, and then you say you don't want to give out your credit card information. Which is it?" as if I was on trial. He proceeded to aggressively speak to me about how his company is legit, and asked how could they put Universal's logo on their website if they weren't legit. I told him that all of that may be true, but I just wasn't interested in the offer if I would be forced to give my card information over the phone right there without being given time to think it over. At this point, he began to harass me about how stupid I was for passing up this offer, so I hung up.
While I technically cannot comment on whether this company truly is a scam or not, I can say that they become ultra aggressive if you do not sign up, and resort to belittling you until you will give them your money. I've been through hassles with Verison and Comcast when discontinuing service, so I know what to expect from these "customer retention specialists," and this seemed more like someone trying to mug me than a company trying not to lose a customer. To me, a company that is reputable will not force someone into giving out their credit card information without having time to think it over.
