I got laid off the end of June and have been unemployed since. My unemployment benefits ran out the first of December. I thought I had finally got a job the week before Christmas. I was contacted by a company called Express that said they had reviewed the resume I had sent and was interested in hiring me. The lady that called me was Grace. She told me to pull up their web site, expresskm.com and look it over. If I was still interested in working for them, I needed to print and fill out the contact agreement on their web site, and also print and fill out the W4, fax both of these, along with a picture ID and my SS card to their fax number. I had to do all of this by 1:00pm the next day, if I wanted to be hired during this next hiring process. She said they were opening up 7 new locations in my area for Administrative Assistants, and other positions. I had sent my resume to this company, along with dozens and dozens of others to many other companies, over the course of 5-6 months.

I did what they asked and they called me back the day after I faxed them everything, to tell me they got it all and I was approved and they would call me back the next week with "my first assignment." They called me on Friday, Dec. 19 to give me that assignment. Said I was to do some research for them, in order to help set-up their new locations. I was to go to any office supply and search computers. They needed 5 new ones, and told me what they were looking for. I was to get brands, pricing, and details. When I was done, I was to email them at [email protected], a report on my findings, and they would call me back the next day and give me a new assignment. I did what they asked and emailed them a detailed report. Grace called me back the next day and said they got my report and it was excellent and I did a good job, and said since it was Saturday, they would not be doing any new assignments, but would call me back Monday, Dec. 22 between 10:00-11:00 am and give me a new assignment.

Grace called me back on Monday and told me the next assignment was too lengthy to tell me on the phone, but to pull up my email in about 20 minutes and get my assignment. I did this and it was to drive all the way to Greenville Ave. in Dallas and pick up a FEDEX package, which would have 6 checks in it. I was to take the check with the lowest number and write in the PAY TO line, a person's name they gave me and fill out a deposit slip (they gave me the account number and routing number), go to a certain back and make the deposit and get a receipt. Once I did this, I was to fax them the receipt, go back home, email them that I had completed the first deposit and wait for further instructions. I don't have a fax machine, so not only was a driving all over to find the bank, I also had to drive to a fax machine and fax them the receipt.

The remaining assignments I did for them were all like this one, make deposits, fax receipts, and email them. They would always give me just one at a time. This was always a long process that took a lot of driving. It was okay with me because they promised they would pay me $37 a mile (asked me to keep up with my mileage), also promised $100.00 sign-on bonus, $400.00 Christmas money, and $22.00 per hour wages.

All of my assignments, on all the other days I worked, Dec. 22, 23, 26, 27, 29, were given to me vie email by Susan Stevens in human resources. The last time I heard from Susan or this company was on the day I was to get paid the first time, Dec. 30. I emailed her and told her I had not received any direct deposit into my account and she told me that she would check with accounting and get back to me or for me to check back in with her about 12 noon that day, Tuesday, Dec. 30. I have never heard back from her. I have emailed her 3-4 times everyday since then. I have yet to get a response. THEY HAVE SIMPLY DISAPPEARED! I spent the little money I had for gas and numerous faxing was totally broke on Dec. 30th and needed my pay, in order to pay my rent and other bills. I had not received any more unemployment benefits since the first week in Dec. and was in desperate shape.

I can not believe a company would have someone spend all that time, gas, and money to do a job for them (and tell them they did a good job on each assignment) and then not pay them or response with an answer! I have all the emails Susan sent me with my assignments, bank account names and numbers, and even where she told me my pay rate and dates I would get paid. These people can not get by with this! I am a divorced mom, with 4 children. All of them but one are grown and out of the house, but one daughter is still at home, and her job has cut her hours back so much, that she's lucky to work 20 hours per week. Therefore, she has not been able to help with the bills as much lately. I'm just so upset about this whole situation.
