I have a kia rio it is a lemon.........i have never in my life dealt with such idolts. yea they give you a 100,000 mile warrenty that is because they are junk but you better believe that they will try everything in there power not to warrenty after 60,000. i have taken my car back for the door locket breaking and the motor mounts breaking and they need to be fixed again. now my timming belt broke and they say they will not warrenty my car because i didn't change my belt at 60,000 miles. i have 70,000 in my car and these idots have done eveything in there power not to honor my warrenty.please do not buy this car.

these people are idots and they think they are pulling a fast one on a lot of people. they tried to charge me for things that wern't even done to my car. that in its self was a ripp off. simply we over heard a coverstation that pete was having with someone at the office while he put the phone down we over heard him say how he is not making any money off us because we wouldn't pay 2500 to fix the car. that is a idot.

these people do not want to warrenty anything shure it sounds good but in the long run they will screw you as hard as they can. this should be ans as far as i care this is a lemon and i will be telling everybody this company sucks. so no matter how good you think of a deal you are getting you are not and they will stick with not give you a warrenty.

Your argument here is just crazy. Because "women's cars are always in the shop- getting things like their engine replaced" means that they get cheaper insurance rates? Do you realize how ridiculous that sounds? About your implied statement that women do not do proper maitenence on their cars. I know there are plenty of men out there who do not know to do proper maitenence on their cars so to imply that women are the only ones who do not do proper maitenence is just plain dumb.I guess that the only cars ever getting fixed in America are women's cars right? Get real. I am a woman and I know plenty about cars and do the maitenence required and beyond to keep my car in good running order. You just sound like a sexist to me. I'm sure you will attempt to fire back at me to justify your ignorance so do it if you must, but it will do you no good.

LISTEN BRADLEY I NEVER SAID THAT I WAS NOT IN THE WRONG. READ AGAIN AND UNDERSTAND WHAT I'M SAYING. I FELT AS THOUGH I WAS BEING TREATED LIKE A STUPID a*s WHEN I WAS TELLING THE KIA PLACE WHAT HAPPEN. BUT WHEN IN FACT MY BOYFRIEND CALLED THE STORY WAS CHANGED AROUND AND THEY WERE COMPLETELY NICE ABOUT THE WHOLE THING. POINT 2.... THEY TRIED TO CHARG ME FOR THINGS THAT WERE NOT DONE. IN FACT IF I WOULD HAVE NOT COME AND LOOKED AT MY CAR THE NIGHT BEFORE I WOULDN'T HAVE EVEN KNOWN THIS. POINT 3.... I HAD THE CAR LOOKED AT AGAIN BY ANOTHER PERSON AND IN FACT IT WAS NOT THE TIMMING BELT THAT TORE THE CAR UP. SOMETHING ELES BROKE AND THAT END UP MESSING THE WHOLE THING UP. SO ITS NOT THAT I'M A CAREFREE PERSON WHO DOES WANT TO FIX HER CAR ITS I DONT WANT TO BE RIPPED OFF AND THAT IS WHAT THEY WERE TRYING TO DO PERIOD........ SO REGARLESS I HAVE THE CAR FIXED KNOW FOR HHALF THE PRICE KIA WANTED AND I NOW OWN A NEW CAR. I FEEL THAT YOU ARE VERY JUGEMENTALE AND VERY ON FAIR. I FEEL AS THOUGH I'M DEALING WITH THE MAN AT THE KIA PLACE WHERE I THINK IS A COMPLETE IDOT. I STILL FEEL THE CAR IS LEMON AND I WOULD TELL EVERYBODY. SO YOU LITTLE COMMENTS LIKE THE ONES YOU SAY REALLY NEED TO BE KEPT TO YOUR SELF, YOU DO DONT KNOW ME AND TO SAY SUCH THINGS ARE NOT RIGHT. BESIDES THAT I WASN'T SHAKING A FIST IN THERE FACE I'M SIMPLY A WOMEN THAT WILL NOT BE RAN OVER AND STOOD UP TO THEM WHICH THEY WERE NOT USED TO AND THAT PISSED THEM OFF. I'M HERE TO TELL YOU BRADLEY I'M A STRONG WOMEN THAT WILL NOT LET A IDOT AND DO LET ME STREES THE WORD IDOT RUN OVER ME. I'M FAR FROM WHINNING ABOUT THIS BUT I WANTED TO GET MY POINT ACROSS TO OTHER PEOPLE DO NOT BUY THIS CAR. AS FAR AS THE LITTLE COMMENT ABOUT GIVING THEM A LITTLE SUMTHIN SUMTHIN HOW FREAKING PIG HEADED IS THAT. I REALLY DONT NEED ANYTHING HANDED TO ME AND NO I DON'T MOAN AND WHINE TO GET THEM. I JUST WANT TO BE TREATED FAIRLY AND NOT DIFFERENT CAUSE I'M A WOMEN. SO MR.BRADLEY KEEP THE BULLSHIT TO YOUR SELF BECAUSE NO MATTER WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY NEGATIVLEY I REALLY DONT HAVE THE TIME FOR THEM. SO YOU KNOW HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY.!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous, you, in fact are ignorant, Same to you "tommy",aka "robin",aka "Jac"ueline

#7Consumer Suggestion

Tue, May 11, 2004

First off, to "Anonymous" where did I say anything about insurance rates or "womens' driving skills"??? I really dont care anything about those debatable subjects... The fact is "women" comprise probably at least 60% of the consumer market, and have a big influence on the other 40% through their "whining". So you can see that with women prefering weenie cars it puts a strain on the manufacturers who have to "please" them. Of course some manufacturers prefer to make "weenie" cars because they are mostly all profit for them...-Helps them compete with the big boys... Since you wanted to bring "insurance rates" into this discussion allow me to explain why "women" might pay "lower insurance rates"... The fact is just like the above scenario, women's cars are always in the shop- getting things like their engine replaced...- So you see this is good business for the insurance comp'nys -getting premiums for cars that arent even being driven.... So you see "anonymous", you are the ignorant poster here-Too bad you didnt leave a name for me to give you proper credit. Now I turn my cane to "Tommie" who should have kept his trap shut as well.... I see you have wasted more space on this site with your ignorant rambling still trying to accuse me of being mutltiple people.... You only make yourself look more like the idiot you are everytime you post. The truth is some of your CURRENT personalities are women. I know you are both Robin and "Jac"ueline who are both schizophrenic and obsessive compulsive. I also know your many personalities hate me which makes me smile- So yes I do LOVE seeing my posts in print,-especially where I am making someone (YOU) look like the FOOL YOU ARE... Go ahead try a search on "Shawangunk" I admit I ran across that one earlier and found it VERY entertaining- Seeing this person making all (3?) of youall look like complete RETARDS. First off you will see how "Robin" is getting bashed by other posters for her BOGUS comments and (typical) she calls on her other personalities (you) to back her up-WHAT A WHINEY LITTLE BABY..SNIFF SNIFF Read further and she will reveal her real PARANOID self when she starts accusing people of spamming her and messing up her computer (through this website!??) among other things...THIS PERSON DOES INDEED NEED PROFESSIONAL HELP... I haven't had a chance to browse the others but BELIEVE me I will!! I just cant pass up entertainment like that!! THANKS FOR YOUR SUGGESTIONS!! I know you(all) will crank out pages of substanceless drivel to this so fire away! ;-) -Show everbody once again why you- "Tommie, Jac, Robin" and friends are the true BOILS ON THE a*s OF THIS WEBSITE. NOW some REAL advice to Katrina:... The next time you are thinking about purchasing a car, disregard all the flashy commercials that are bombarding your tv screen every five minutes (that you are really paying for in the price of the car) and make a trip to a couple auto shops (BEFOREHAND) and chat a bit with some real MECHANICS-the people who actually know and have to work on these "Cars"... Hear some of their horror stories about working on nightmare cars and make a note to stay away from these kinds. Pretty simple actually... Katrina I would bet since you seem to be the "maintenance carefree type" that they would recommend a basic pushrod engine with a timing CHAIN- at least thats what I would recommend for you- Pay no attention to "tommie" (who doesnt know "jack" about cars) He would put you back into the same engine design that you had all the trouble to begin with (one with a timing BELT) as it is common knowledge that most japanese cars regardless of manufacturer use this.. -You just need to know which ones suffer the most damage when it breaks. So you may have to look around a bit but get yourself a good quality engine and pay less attention to how "cute" the car is. Also pay less attention to gas mileage. The truth is when it comes to cars, the pipers gonna get his share no matter what. You wanna car thats "cheap on gas" chances are its gonna be "expensive on labor" and have things like the timing belt etc. So when your paying the high labor bill, (as you might have experienced) you might wonder where the few bucks you saved a year on gas went. IF you do end up with a timing BELT, YOU need to know that these dont last forever and at the very least your cars gonna quit when it breaks. Get yours changed according to the recommedations (even if the data is in the fine print). I have to say that from reading your story LEGALLY you dont have a leg to stand on with Kia. They say 60 thou they mean 60 thou....Im sure they have dealt with many a "woman" with the same predictament as you and after ahwhile they start to not really give much of a dam.... MORALLY I cant blame you a hundred percent because you are just a product of the "get my way" "disregard the rules" society. You think "whats an extra ten thou on the odomenter? I can get away with that!" "If I whine and moan long enough they'll satisfy me.." Well some places might but they dont like it, Just ask the cop who has to give the speeding ticket or the teacher who has to give the bad grade, they deal with people looking for a break day in day out and your really nobody special to them. (unless maybe you offer 'em a little "sumthin, sumthin". So not trying to be mean here but you really need to take another look at this. Good luck in the future. (make buds with some mechanics youll probly have a way better car experience-might even get some discounted labor from time to time)A lot of 'em will go the extra mile for someone thats pleasant and not scalding them with a fist in their face. OH yeah I need no credit for setting anonymous and "tommy boy" straight...

"Bradley", you've sunk to a new low, especially since one of your former personalities was a woman. (For newbies, try a search here on Shawangunk or Pegleg.) You have a big mouth, dude. You just LOVE seeing your comments in print form, don't you. Gives you a real sense of importance, doesn't it? After seeing all your posts over time I can only agree with the others that you are a sick person that needs professional help...Sho 'nuff. Keep it up and I will PEE IN YOUR HAIR! (Shaw/Peg/Peter from Pony, and Brad has a toilet fixation) To Katrina, preventive maintainance is just that, doesn't matter what you drive. HOWEVER, if you flipped through an issue of Consumer Reports at your local library, you would have seen Kia was ranked at the bottom of their reliability index. The parts they make the car out of are not as good quality as most. Honestly, you get what you pay for. For 10k you can by a used Japanese car, drive it for 100,000 miles, or buy a brand new Kia with a great warranty. Heh, you'll need it, because Kia simply doesn't have the same proven reliability record. Oh well, live and learn. Bring it into the shop, what's you're time worth? RIGHT! I'd rather buy a used car that has a good track record. You didn't buy a lemon, you bought a car that wasn't designed well from the beginning. This is not your responsibilty. An inconvience - oh yes. And yes, your troubles with a Kia dealership are not isolated. Bradley, you are a boil on the a*s of society.

Bradley you really cannot be that ignorant as to believe that if women weren't allowed to drive, that car manufacturers could build "real cars" are you? If you really think that than you must be one of the most ignorant people on the face of the planet. If women are so horrible at driving than why do women usually pay lower insurance rates than men? If you believe that then share some facts as to why women are worse drivers than men. You are just ridiculous.

WOW -- a new motor AND labor for - was it $1000 or $1100. That was a great deal. I could only suggest to keep the kunuter valve greased and to maintain the pressure on the cam shocks at the proper pressure. Most KIA's have spring loaded piston rods and this sort of damage usually don't happen. Keep up the good work.

Honda - the most reliable car in the world ... or is it ?

#21Consumer Suggestion

Wed, April 14, 2004

What does Honda have to do with your timing belt issue? Read on... you'll see. Honda boasts to make some of the best cars on the road today, and for the last 15 years or so. I don't think so!!! The fact is, as far as deffects from the factory most passenger cars come with about the same amount(see JD Powers initial quality surveys). Than why is it that some have higher resale and reliability record than others ? From the beginning Honda has done an excellent job at educating costumers about maintenance. The average Honda owner knows their maintenance by heart. Spend a day in a Honda dealer service department and just listen to the owners walking in...don't comment on this until you did spend a day in a Honda dealer service department! You'll hear several requests from Honda owners such as: I'm here for my 15,000 mile service, or 30k or 60k or Timing Belt replacement. Most Honda engines are interference motors also, (So are Mitsubishis and some others) Spend a day in a KIA service department. You'll hear lot's of comments like: Wal Mart can do it cheaper, You're just trying to get my money, No, I don't think I need all that, What do you mean warranty does not cover oil changes? In all fairness this has changed over the last couple of years, as more and more educated customers are buying KIAs the more reliable KIAs are becoming. Educated people read the maintenance section of the owners manual before driving their cars!!! Would you operate a lawn mower without reading the maintenance recommendations? I hope not, you'll lock the engine up eventually. You want to have a reliable car ? Although statistical data shows a rank in quality of vehicles, the truth of the matter is the difference in quality in same price range vehicles is statistically insignificant. THE BOTTOM LINE: Educated customers have reliable vehicles. By educated I mean educated about maintenance and operating instructions from day one of ownership. Not by a sales person..., YOU MUST READ THE OWNERS MANUAL YOURSELF! Educated customers develop a trusting relationship with their dealer, unless the dealer is really not worthy of your trust. MYTH: Dealers run from warranty repairs ? Don't think so... a significant portion of dealer profits come from warranty repairs, the manufacturers pay the dealer, most overnight for each warranty repair. It's easy money, dealers want it. On the other hand dealers are held accountable by audits, their warranty expenses are checked against the national average and are held responsible if replacing parts not covered by the warranty agreement. Because of the fierce customer satisfaction competition among brands, if an item is in a gray area, hard to decide if warranty or not, most dealers will help the customer. A happy customer is more important than anything else to a dealer. Truth: Most service department employees enjoy helping people, that's why they chose that career. Dealer prices are higher than others, but dealers are held to a higher standard by the public also. Customers expect perfection from a dealership service department. Perfection has a price. Lifeguards: When lifeguards try to rescue a drowning person, the most difficult chalenge is the drowning person himself, since they franatically move their arms around trying to stay afloat. The lifequard must convince them before getting to close that they must trust the lifeguard completely and calm down. Only when the drowning is willing to allow the lifeguard to save them is when they can be taken to safety. Warranties are an integral part of your contract with a manufacturer, let's not try to twist, bend or distort the meaning of the written word. 60,000 miles means 60,000 miles!!! Maybe Clinton helped dilute the meaning of words when he answered a question saying something like "If is means is, YES, if is does not mean is, NO" Is does mean is, therefore what is is what is not is not. Timing belt braking after 60,000 on a RIO KIAs responsibility is NOT. Educate yourself, next time before slandering a business or a person!

WELL I'M GLAD THAT YOU AGREE WITH ME TO SOME POINT BUT AS IT STILL STANDS I FEEL THAT EVEN KNOW THE TIMING BELT WAS NOT CHANGED I STILL FEEL AS THOUGH I SHOULD NOT BE TOTALLY RESPONABLE FOR THE WHOLE THING. TO THE COMMENT RESPONSABLITY IS MUST ALIVE IN 2004. WELL I'M VERY WELL AWARE OF IT. BUT I HAVE ALSO SEEK A LAWYER TO SEE IF ANYTHING CAN BE DONE AND IT IS VERY POSSIBLE. SO BEING AT THAT I STILL STAND BY WHAT I SAID AS FAR AS THE KIA PLACE TRYING TO RIP ME OFF AND I WOULD NOT INCOURGE ANY ONE TO BY ONE. SO YOU BE WELL TOO.

Katrina, I agree with you! such a super-critical issue

#26Consumer Suggestion

Yes Katrina, I agree with you regarding customer service. Every business needs to remember the #1 fact...without customers, there's NO need for you! Agreed? They shouldn't have been making snide remarks about you or any other customer, period. If you found a decent independent mechanic to handle your problem, thats great too! Most independents cost alot less than a dealership. When you find one you can trust, build and maintain an on-going relationship with him. My point about timing belts remains the same. It is such a super-critical issue that should not in any way, shape, form or regard be skimped on. This is not the fault of the dealer, but of the design. Be well,

FAIRWAY KIA RIPPOFFS BY IDOTS, IN RESPONSE TO THE GENTALMAN THAT WROTE BACK

#27Author of original report

IN RESPONSE TO THE GENTALMAN THAT WROTE BACK, I KNOW WHAT I NEED TO DO TO FIX MY CAR AND I HAD TAKEN CARE OF EVERYTHING EXCEPT THE BELT BUT I WILL TELL YOU THIS I DO NOT LIKE THE FACT I HEAR THEM TALKING ABOUT HOW THEY ARE NOT MAKEING ANY MONEY OFF OF ME BECAUSE OF THE FACT I DONT WANT TO PAY 2500 TO FIX A CAR THAT IS NOT EVEN THAT WHEN I BOUGHT IT. FURTHER MORE I HAVE GOTTEN THE CAR FIXED FOR 1,000 AND THAT IS WITH A NEW MOTOR AND LABOR. SO YOU TELL ME WHAT IS WRONG WITH THAT PICTURE. SO DONT TELL ME I NEED TO LOOK AT MY WARRENT I'M WELL AWARE OF IT AND THE FACT THAT THESE PEOPLE ARE RIPP OFFS AND THAT THERE ARE IDOTS. I FEEL THAT THEY COULD HAVE WARRENTY MOST OF IT. I NEVER SAID THAT I WAS NOT WILLING TO PAY FOR SOME OF IT BUT I DONT WANT TO FEEL LIKE I BEING TREATED LIKE I DONT KNOW WHAT I'M TAKING ABOUT. SO BEFORE YOU START TELLING ME THAT I NEED TO LOOK AT THE WARRENTY YOU NEED TO KNOW THE IDOTS I'M DEALING WITH. IF I CCAN GET MY CAR FIXED FOR 1,000 WITH LABOR VERSES 2500 SO NOW YOU TELL ME WHAT IS WRONG WITH THAT PICTURE. AND BESIDES THAT THEY TREATED ME ALL DIFFERENT TILL I BROUGHT I GUY UP THERE. AND WHAT REALLY GETS ME IS THE FACT THEY WERE TRYING TO MAKE ME PAY FOR LABOR AND PARTS THAT WERE NOT EVEN DONE!!!!!!!!!!!! SO YOU KNOW WHAT DONT TELL ME TO READ MY WARRENTY BEFORE I RIP ON THE DEALERS CAUSE I WILL TELL YOU RIGHT KNOW THEY SUCK!!!!!!!!!! AND NO MATTER WHAT YOU SAY THAT WILL ALWAYS BE THE FINALLY WORD.

Before reaping condemnation on the dealer or the manufacturer, check your warranty info.

I would just about guarantee your paperwork says that as part of ROUTINE maintenance, the timing belt MUST be replaced at 60,000 miles or the warranty is null and void. Thats 60,000, not 61,000, 65,000 or 70,000! The timing belt is such a critcal component that it NEEDS to be replaced BEFORE it breaks! A timing belt breaking while the engine runs could mean massive engine damage in an "interference design" engine. Replacing it at 60k is standard procedure and while the mechanic is in there, replacing the water pump is also recommended. Now, lets back up a little..YOU knew the timing belt had to be replaced at 60k, YOU stated that in your post. YOU didn't follow thru and now you claim the dealer is weaseling his way out of his resonsibility. What's wrong with this picture? I'll be the FIRST to state many many dealers will try to slime their way out of the warranty agreement. In fact, if you want to see how fast some dealers can run, just tell them you have a warranty claim! But in this case, I think you are on the hook and rightfully so. Its an expensive lesson. The word "RESPONSIBILITY" is still very much alive and well in 2004!
