I have worked for Family Dollar for over two years as a manager.I have also worked for Dollar General for over 12 years as a manager(CTM). I wanted a change, and plus moving down to FL.

I had been switched to total four stores since I came onto Family Dollar, cleaning them up, getting ready for inventories, helping Inventory at thye level it should be, I have done all and more what required of me to do in this company.Anytime my DM needed help getting a store ready(along with other Great managers) store closed down from Health Dept, Fire Marshall, Managers were fired, no one to run the store, going in between three or four stores, IF YOU didnt, you were threaten with your job everyday, you have to make a living, you have to keep your job.

Amonth ago i was asked from my DM to move Pods, or gandola's in the midway to build the front giftbar, it took me and two other employees to move this, I called him and told him they would not even move, he (as he always does, yelling, cursing on phone, ) it has to be done before his boss(mind you me and other managers have been at other stores helping out for his precious visits our store gets behind)

So we again attempted to move, the gandola started to split, one of my employees started to jump in front of it, and i told her not to, if it does let it fall, and it was so heavy, i went to pull it back so it would not fall on her, instead she pushed and it pinned my whole right hand(i am right handed)they both witnessed the accident, so I had to call R.M. to report injury, my assitant would not answer the phone to come in, i called the other store in my town to cover so i could go to hospital, she couldnt which she did not have an assitant either,

i tried calling my DM Zack, he would not return my call, then i call the R.M. back, and tell of my sistuation, they said I could not go to ER, b/c they would not pay for it, and they would deny the claim, i have to go to a clinic that worker comp would pay for, i am like you got to be kidding,lets say i went to a clinic 2 days later(b/c i could not get any one to relieve me, call corp, they said my DM would have to get with me on that, which never happen)the hospital had to call him and let him know i was being seen to do a drug test(which by law is required)and he acts like he doesnt know what to do or say, i was told i could not work, nothing was broke, but i need to see an orthpedic very soon, b/c of the brusing and swelling, (which i took pic's of my arm and saved them on disk)i was put in a brace and had very heavy meds to take,

the next day i get a call from my DM demanding I come to store, i explained i was on driving restrictions, and i was on pain medicine, he told me it was urgent, and if i didnt i would be fired, so i had to get my sister from an hour from me to go take me to see what this was about, i could not even walk, i was hurting so bad, i had to unloosen the brace, my arm kept swelling so bad, and knots all over my arm, i ask him b/c i was so heavily medicated to have someone come in with me, He said NO Legally you cant have anyone in here, he denied my rights to have someone in there(which later in state of FL you have the right ,anyone that refuses(even if it deals with lp)is against the law)

other words i was fired because two employess claimed i was paying them out of the register,they both made statements, I am like , you called me up for this bunch of lies, i told them this was no true, can i face my accusers, No Legally you cant, I am like well let me see proof of this, like viedo, recording etc.. they are like Legally we cant, i am like weel maybe I need a lawyer to get this, they say legally you do not have the right to, i told them i have civil rights, they said no you dont in this company, i told them you do what you think is best, i ask them was the registers ever short, they stated, NO, were the deposits ever late, or short, They said NO., ok, i turned and asked my DM, am i over Payroll this week, Hell yes you are, and you were over last week, i ask him, by how much, at least 300.00 over, I am like wow, and i need to pay them out of the register???

The best part is saved to last: I was told by them I was fired on 09/21/07, worker comp tells me i was fired on 09/25/07, and Cobra, (for my insurance) tells me that they got a written, and verbal that i was terminated on 09/20/2007. They are notifed by the company Family Dollar, and there was no mistakes made by this, I have made copies of all these paper trails and mistakes, and the best for last, the TWO employees that made the false accustaions, where the two employees that seen me get hurt, and yes they were on the clock, b/c R.M. (handles the work comp case had to get thir time record to prove they were there when i got hurt)

Steve, thankyou for your comment, but, there is a difference me knowing it and Family Dollar knowing it. I checked with my lawyer, each state is different, we have looked under even the US law for worker Comp as well, if you even go to the ER, they do not have to pay, (state of FL)if i even get caught even discussing my injury to a DR that is not even on worker comp for my case, even if i am asking him general question, they can deny the claim, "it sounds so easy" looking at the worker comp poster, adn the nice little letter they send you, FL from what i have seen has the worst worker comp cases that need to be taken care of(look on the internet of true cases)i have had to go to the American Doctor Association for the non certified DR they are sending me to, he is not a certifed orthopedic, he told me he was HE LIED about his creditionals, and the beauty of it, Worker Comp Knows it. Two, he also lied and told me a bone scan will tell that if you have a tissue or nerve damage, tendon tear or ligament tear, that is a Lie. I could work 30 years as a manager, when a crisis or accident, you are so worried about making sure everyone else is fine and taken care, and you forget to take care of yourself, I was following procedures(not like i had a job injury before)either way, whether i locked up or not, i would have been fired, and guess what worker comp will not pay anything at all, I am not lashing out, but until it happens to you, and it may have and i hope not ever, i have seen what really happens, i dont my job, (by law) someone else havent....... so when people go shopping at these kind of stores keep that in mind, i have. Again thankyou, and as far a sue anyone, well i am trying to, and going back and forth to DR, my hand is basically useless, i type only with my left hand,i am 31 years old, and i sound like a old crab, LOL i have to depend on my hands and what else i have left of my body to make a living, and by the way, i cannot even have any pain meds, they (worker comp) says you will be ok, put a ice pack on it and take advil, hmmm, when your hand goes numb on you at anytime, and you have knots all up in your arm, and cant feel your fingers, and trying to get a job, but you have to be 100% effective, just keep kicking me please lol

If you knew your rights under the law, this would not have happened. As a member of management, you should know workman's comp. inside out. When you are injured, you get the immediate treatment you need, and then you worry about who is going to pay for it. Your employer cannot deny immediate treatment. When injured on the job, you CAN go to ANY medical provider for your initial emergency treatment. That is the law. In the future, if this happens, don't spend more than a few minutes looking for someone to cover you. You lock up the store and go to the hospital. If they are understaffed, that is their problem, not yours. Don't let them make their problem your problem. Get a lawyer right away. Sue them now. File labor charges too.

Attn: Helen for your response, Thank you for your advice, which I wish I could have used when all of this happen. Yes I do have an attorney handling this case, worker comp denied my pay each week, but gladly wants to pay my medical expenses, and get this the DR i go to, the orthopedic, is not Board Certifed, he lied to us and said he was, we check his credits, and even the book they have to tell that he is board certifed, HE ISNT! Plus, he flat out refuses a contrast dye MRI to see if i have nerve damage, he just does a x-ray and bone scan, these don't show any kind of tissue, ligament, tendon, or nerve damage, my hand goes numb onme, stinging, pain all the time, and he was so rude and hateful to me, now i am going to see a referral of his hand specialist(yes he is board certifed), they were upset, b/c the proper test were not done, and in result, there may be more injury to my hand. I had to file for worker comp, how can i pay any bills fighting all of this, and my former boss has been giving me bad refernces, but that is ok, I have everything Documented, if you know what i mean, this can be a lawsuit on him and on the company , b/c all of this is being done on Company time, all i know, is i will have to look for another profession, it is depressing that there is sharks out there like this, but i do know zack, will get his due one day, what goes around, comes around, and by the way the two women that seen and was there when i got hurt, are the ones that claimed that i payed them out of the register, i told them please be careful of perjury, it is very serious. But again thank you very much, I wish there was a way to catch these companies and do a undercover story on them and bust them on TV, People out there need to see how they really treat people at work, have a good one!

Sounds like to me you were fired after suffering an on the job accident which is ILLEGAL AS HELL under federal law! I AM NOT AN ATTORNEY AT LAW! IF YOU WANT LEGAL ADVICE YOU NEED TO SEEK THE ADVICE OF AN ATTORNEY AT LAW LICENSED TO PRACTICE LAW BY THE BAR ASSOCIATION IN YOUR OWN STATE! THE FOLLOWING IS NOT LEGAL ADVICE AND IS NOT MEANT TO SUBSTITUTE FOR A CONSULTATION WITH AN ATTORNEY AT LAW LICENSED TO PRACTICE IN YOUR STATE. You should have had EMS take you off the job site if you were injured.It might not seem like much at the time but it can develop into something disabling later.I had a misplaced sense of loyalty to a private security employer ( Any employer could be substituted here, actually) when I got hurt on the job, I did not call EMS and I ended up with osteoarthritis in my injured joints and being forced to go out on disability. FAMILY DOLLAR is much bigger and I think they are based out of North Carolina which got their employee/employer policies from the antebellum SLAVE days,like it SEEMS MOST of these Southern States and a lot of the Northern States are becoming these days! CAN YOU SAY : LABOR UNION BADLY NEEDED HERE??????? After you have EMS take you away and you are in the hospital you need to call or have someone else call a GOOD PERSONAL INJURY ATTORNEY! These people work on contingency fee. That means to say, if they don't recover for you THEY DON'T GET PAID. SO they have LOTS of incentive to WORK FOR YOU AND GET YOU JUST COMPENSATION FOR YOUR PAIN AND SUFFERING! AND BIG LOTS OR ANY OTHER EMPLOYER CAN"T FIRE YOU WHILE YOU ARE OUT WITH THE INJURY! People screw up when they don't let their ATTORNEYS handle these matters. They end up without a job and BLACKBALLED. Which means nobody in the same line of business in that entire state will hire y ou. It is ILLEGAL but THEY DO IT! It was done to me! Which might be the move you needed so you could put in with the WORKFORCE Center or whoever handles your State's Employment Commission for one of the job retraining programs or whoever your Vocational Rehabilitation is that retrains and finds employment for workers who are precluded from working at their old job due to injuries. All expenses paid by taxpayers to get your employable again so you can also be a taxpayer and pay your share to help others. GREAT PROGRAM! NOBODY SHOULD HAVE TO TAKE MINIMUM WAGE ABUSE IN A DEAD END JOB! Good luck retraining for something that pays better!
