In early December 2013 I husband found an article in Country Living Magazine featuring Richard Lachance, a Birdhouse Maker and his wife Virginia Lachance (she makes items from wool), residing in Caledonia, Missouri. The name of their supposed business is "Farmhouse Antiques" -- the address is 20637 S. State Highway 21, Caledonia, Missouri 63631; phone number 573-779-3869 and website farmhouse1807.com.  I contacted Rick - he texted pics of birdhouses - my wife and I picked one -- he supposedly started working on it. I heard from Rick on Dec. 18, 2013 and he asked for the money. I sent him a postal money order that same day for $150 ($125 for the birdhouse plus $25 shipping). He said he was almost finished & would send it on Dec. 20th. We never received it. I called again - nobody answered phone and no phone call back. I called again and he said the weather was bad but he'd send it the next day. It never came. A few days later I called again Rick said they were taking care of someone sick in the family and that he'd send it the next day. As of today January 20, 2014 we don't have the birdhouse or the money and the last conversation with him was that he was going to send the money by courier. We still don't have anything. I don't want this to happen to anyone else.

We called the Missouri Better Business Bureau for weeks... they asked us to fax documentation showing we sent payment etc. so we did. Now the weeks turned into over a month and with all those phone calls they said that after they spoke to Rick LaChance (a/k/a Farmhouse 1807; a/k/a Farmhouse Antiques; a/k/a Richard LaChance) Rick said that he would send our money back less a restocking fee. Wow -- that's a new one. I thought only big box stores did that. Isn't a restocking fee after you receive the merchandise and decide you don't want it? We never got anything -- no birdhouse, no money, not even a phone call but one thing we have gotten was a total "run-a-round" from the Missouri Better Business Bureau and the Missouri Attorney General's Office. Needless to say the Missouri BBB said they can't help us -- just a waste of our precious time. Now comes the Missouri Attorney General's Office -- the person we had to contact there was Kathleen Kelly who never answers her phone, is always in meetings and never returns phone calls and this wasn't after one or two phone calls -- this is over ten phone calls or more. If she ever decides to retire I would move to Missouri and apply for her job. Where is the justice for hard working people? Someone in Ms. Kelly's office said to send our proof that we sent payment -- we did -- we faxed a copy of the postal money order -- the date, time, and place it was cashed, etc. We have wasted so much time, money and we are truly disgusted. Nothing has been done. So another crook (Rick La Chance) has gotten away with it! Why do we have all these agencies? There is absolutely no justice in this world. Since Rick LaChance is "double-dipping" does the IRS know about this? He has our birdhouse and our $150. A true waste of our time! We don't want this to happen to someone else so please beware. Thank you Rip-Off Report -- it's a good feeling to know that at least you listen unlike the Missouri BBB and Missouri Attorney General's Office.  I have to go now but I will attach the letter from the Missouri BBB. Thanks again.
