I was contesting the charges an apartment complex assessed me. My attorney has been litigating the item to work for a settlement. Fidelity Information Corp put the item on my credit report under collections. I was just offered a great job out of state and I can no longer take the job because the item is being reported.

This should not have happened under litigation - and I can not move to take the job due to them placing this on my report. I am now facing months to get this fixed - in the mean time I have lost a great job. They have runined my career and life.

You put yourself in this situation

First off being under "litigation" infers that you actually filed a civil suit and are in court. What you appear to be in is just regular "negotiations". If you were truly under "litigation", it would be no more than a simple matter for your attorney to file a motion with the court to have them remove the collection account while your case was being heard.

Your second issue is that you are trying to negotiate a settlement.  Meaning that you, in principal, agree that some of the charges are valid and you are just trying to pay as little as possible. After all, if the charges were invalid you would not be trying to settle.   While there is nothing wrong with that, because you do agree you owe money and the balance is unpaid, your account became delinquent and the collection account is valid.

Oh and if you say you are trying to "settle" to speed up the process and put it behind you, how much time, effort and MONEY is this costing you to reduce how much of the balance?

Again if you think it is going to take "months" to get it fixed, this infers  you are going to spend even more time and money.  As all it takes is for them to send in a request to the Credit Reporting Agencies to have the collection account removed.

If this is truly a great job, perhaps you could have taken the money you have been paying your attorney and pay off the balance  I really hope you did not put yourself in this situation for a few hundred or even just a couple thousand dollars, where you were letting a dime hold you up from earning a dollar.

Good Luck
