There are a couple of issues regarding this complaint that need to be addressed immediately. 1.) Nationwide Credit is NOT a company owned/operated by Fingerhut. It is an independant collections company. 2.) If you are receiving social security benefits for disability, and that is your sole income, this collections company can not legally collect from you. I would suggest contacting a local legal aid agency to assist you in stopping this company from calling you and/or your family members. Fingerhut had gone out of business in 2002, the current Fingerhut kept the name and the distribution warehouse. All accounts from the former Fingerhut had been sold to a company called CompuCredit. If there was a balance on your old Fingerhut account, it would have been turned over to them. If your address and phone information had been current or updated, your family would not be contacted. But, for some reason this company was able to track down family members for the purpose of collections on a debt. I do not condone this action, but you must understand that when the original Fingerhut went out of business, part of the reason was due to so many outstanding and delinquent accounts. I hope that you are able to resolve this issue, and again, I strongly suggest that you contact a local legal aid organization to assit you and apprise you of your rights as a consumer.
