I haven't had any experience with the foster care system, but I had a great deal of experience with DCF. My daughter was sexually assaulted by a man while we were living in Spring Hill, and the State and County did NOTHING about it! He got 4 years probation, after which the mark on his record will disappear. My daughter was 5 years old at the time. We had to go and stay at the local battered womens shelter, which is where I had most of my DCF contact. I was threatened by the women who worked there that they would call DCF and CPS because I was letting my 7 month old co-sleep with me because she was still breastfeeding. I hope you get some resolution in your case. There is something really wrong with the legal system there in Hernando County, FL and hopefully someone, somehow will bring it to light in the near future.

The Children are not safe from the system anywhere

I too am a maternal grandmother with a 7-year old-grandchild in Oklahoma "protective custody" that doesn't protect her. Everytime I air a legitimate complaint she gets a new worker or a new foster home but nothing is done to see that other children are kept safe from the systems abuses. She lived with me for three years prior to her incarceration--with no problems--yet they won't even consider letting her come home. She misses the security of her dog as much as she misses me. I'm studying psychology so maybe I can help her deal with this when she comes home. Even if she has to wait until she's 18---she will come home, They can't stop her then. And they will provide my with enough emotional basket cases to treat that I may be able to hold on until then. Give Pottawatomie county a raise we got a big family and they mess with us all. The social worker herself adopted my 17-year-old niece herself a few years back for a trust fund she had because she was orphaned at age two. Hear they had a nice time in Mexico--without the children.

After reading some of the reports on the Florida foster system (and I am not just picking on Florida, there are other states that are as bad or worse) about "losing" children in the system, abuse of children in the system and general lack of caring, I would fight to save my grandchildren from these people as well. I'm not a big fan of the ACLU, however, you might contact them and see if they would be willing to help you out. Have you contacted the media? If they aren't interested, they should be.
