I am considering trying Freedompop again after the experience described herein because I can't find anyone else offering the kind of service -- I'm discussing the free data with one-time device purchase offer -- they provide, but I am leary.

When I signed up for the free monthly data service accompanying the one-time device purchase, I was informed after purchasing the device that it was sold out due to "overwhelming popularity" and was on back order. Ok, but they did not provide me with an invoice or receipt of the actual device purchase nor were they able to give me even an approximate date of delivery. In the meantime, they charged my credit card for the full amount of the service. I had a problem with this. Their customer service was labrythine and required tremendous repetition and clarification. I was told that they charged my card for the service that I enrolled in, not the device per se, which is odd since the service is supposed to be free contingent upon purchase of the device.

They employ bewildering logic to justify what I consider to be credit card fraud, since they transacted the charge without being able to provide me with evidence that I actually purchased the device or that it would actually ever be delivered. I simply received "assurances" that the device would be delivered as soon as possible. This wasn't good enough for me, so I reversed the transaction through my credit card issuer and made a report with them. I informed Freedompop clearly that I had done this, formally cancelled my account through their website, and wrote a detailed account of my experience and displeasure with them and their services.

several weeks later, I received the device from Freedompop without any communication or additional information. I was nonplussed. I double checked with my credit card and verified that the charge had in fact been reversed. At this point, I was indeed tempted to go ahead and use the device, but ethics, and more importantly, fear of continuing to deal with an outfit so clearly suffering from disorganization and hazy practices, led me to instead inform Freedompop of their mistake. They apologized and sent me a postage-paid box which I used to return the device to them.
