I purchased a 12000 BTU portable Soleus brand air conditioner 24 hrs ago (my first ever purchase from Frys). I was informed that I would have to contact Soleus if there were any problems with the unit and they would fix or replace it.

I installed the unit very close to window for optimum cooling, the room is stand alone and insulated. Room dimensions 21'x20'. Windows have black out blinds on all windows. Installation was easy and it was operating within a half hour of unpackaging. Set thermostat to 74 degrees, fan on high, mode to AC and swing vents. Cool to cold air came out.

1hr then 2hrs later there was little or no cooling to the room. I then set thermostat down into the 60's. 1 to 2 more additional hours and the room actually was getting warmer not cooler despit the fact that cold air was coming out on high.

I called the Fry refund line and was told they do not allow a return of any AC which seemed foul play right away. They suggested I mention I had read about defective complaints online and talk to a manager in the store. I figure like Home Depot they would honor my $416 purchase if the merchandise was in fact ineffective or useless. I packed it all up and brought to the Fry returns department and explained I may have to speak with a manager but I wanted a refund.

They assisted getting it out of my car and then proceeded to say they won't refund it. They will replace it to which I emphatically said no it is not a broken unit it is just badly made and does not live up to its claims. They flately refused to work with me at all. I had printoffs where Home Depot had allowed returns and that Home Depot was discontinuing their entire line of Soleus products. Not to mention I had pages of other customers that had the very same complaints as myself in that Soleus AC's did not cool their rooms.

I was shocked they would not return my money, so I left the unit at Frys and left. I will contact Soleus Monday but do not expect any help from them. I will now call Visa and see if they can cancel payment.
