GameStop could not offer to take it because that is against GameStop's company policy. GameStop is not allowed to take ANY unopened merchandise from ANYONE, not just this individual, but any customer that comes in and attempts to sell their unopened items. It was not the workers at the GameStop he went to fault... because it is COMPANY policy. He can email or call corporate and they will tell you the same thing. It is not that GameStop wants to accuse people on an individual level of stealing, but believe me... this kind of thing DOES happen. People DO steal and bring their stuff to GameStop. (Besides, GameStop only sells USED games, consoles, and accessories... an unopened item is obviously not used.)
I've known personally people who have done that (or attempted to, not sure if successfully) and as an ex-employee of GameStop, I've seen it myself! One time, a gentleman stole a Nintendo DS and sold it to us (however, he opened it before bringing it to us to follow our "no unopened items" policy, as I'm sure he knew about it already) and we had to deal with the police, the gentleman who did this, and the victims. I know it might sound bizzare that some individuals out there are shoplifters, thiefs, or untrustworthy, or, yknow, that desperate for money. But it happens. Any store that buys things from people have the right to deny the sale if they are suspicious or something (or, yknow, just all around company policy.)

Wow, just wow....... Ok for starters if you did come into possession of this Xbox legitimately then thats fine and dandy. However that being said it came into your possession via a special promotion through Amazon of which I do not recall ever seeing but thats ok (I know either Dell or HP had one if you went through them direct though), so as I said even if you did obtain the unit through legit channels it was neither obtained from Walmart nor from Gamestop.
You got the unit from Amazon so trying to return it to Walmart is just fraud and lying. Walmart will let you return something to them without a receipt if you provide a drivers license and its like a once in 6 month thing but the barcode has to scan and come up in their system. Gamestop has the right to refuse any and all trades due to any hint of the item being stolen or otherwise and you obviously gave them reason for caution. So before you dumb a** comes on here spouting garbage like you did step back and look in the mirror because you belong on Americas Dumbest Criminals TV Show.

I can't believe you would actually try to pawn you free xbox 360 on a company like wal-mart that didn't even own the item first, that is serious fraud and you can easily be arrested for doing that, and you have the audacity to try and say that you were wronged. Not only that but you tried to pawn it all off on your grandparents who can now get in trouble for you lies.
And then you even go to gamestop, which wasn't as bad cause they buy from anyone. You don't have any right to say that they also wronged you, but the truth is that they don't have to buy your crap. in fact they don't have to hear you explain your stupidness either.
Lastly i'm not sure but i think wal-mart is able to sue you for your fraud. In my opinion you have no right to complain, and i'm suprissed wal-mart stayed so quiet about this when they knew you didn't buy it from them.

First off I like to say wow. This has been interesting to read.
With Wal Mart, I never knew they would take unopened items. I may not be familiar with their policy but I am pretty sure they don't. With your statement about Wal Mart that they are looking for a receipt. There should be no reason for Wal Mart to ask for one if the product is bought through another seller. Another comment you have is your grandparents are the ones that bought the unit. The unit supposedly is yours, your grandparents have no legal claim on the xbox if it was given to you. Also I would like to point out what concerns me the most. The manager said you have 15 days to "RETURN" electronics. Just what are you trying to do? Sell the xbox you own or trying to get a refund through a company that never owned the unit?
You state you have packaging on the xbox when you took it into gamestop. Didn't Wal Mart see the packaging? While gamestop does buy game gear from a supplier, they have a right to decline any sale period. Just because one brings an item in does not guarantee a sale. Also if the employee said to you that you stole the unit, why didn't they have the police looking for you when you left the store?
I am not a judge or jury so I won't say you are guilty or not. But if you did have a legal right to sell the unit then you really should be careful how you tell others what happened because this report you have has me thinking you did something wrong. If you are guilty of theft then I would be somewhat surprised you have not been put in jail yet. In any case, my advice to you which you probably won't do is stay away from reporting anything or you might just find yourself in serious legal and financial trouble.

YOU were the only shady, sneaky, dis-honest, lying individual in all this.
YOU were the Ripoff!
Sadly, you still claim YOU were Ripped off.
Take the stupid thing to a pawn shop and get over your cheating self.

Well, Gamestop could've bought it, they could've opened it up if they wanted and sold it for used or whatever. But they didn't even offer that. Sold it as new, but opened for inspection. Get top notch pricing just below the brand new. Sounds like a bunch of kuntz running the store to me.

No one's trying to take away anyone's rights. The point is that a person can't return an item without a receipt. Just because someone thinks a business is ripping people off doesn't give that person a right to try to ripoff that business.

I expect this kind of transaction could cause warranty grief for whatever person would buy it from Walmart or Game Stop.
As far as Microsoft knows, the device was already sold by Amazon and the warranty started.
If someone bought it from Walmart, had to call for warranty issues and found out that MS has it down as a used machine, the person would be justifiably angry. I would be and so would the OP.
Incredibly dishonest and unethical. You should be ashamed of yourself.

No, the op is the liar and fraud. He freely admits he tried to return something to Walmart when he didn't purchase it there. He tried to rip them off, not vice versa. Gamestop didn't rip him off either.
NO RECEIPT, NO RETURN!
Got that everyone?

Gamestop reserves the right to refuse any trade for any reason. However, it would not be against Gamestop's trade policy to accept unopened merchandise for trade IF the trader also provided a valid purchase receipt for the item in question. The employee would then open the merchandise and make sure all the required components are present and in acceptable condition and, in the case of a system, test the item to be sure it works and is clear of personal data. The trader would receive the exact same amount of credit they would have if the product had been brought in used (and fully functional).

Frankly, the Walmart ought to pull up their video of YOU trying to pawn your unwanted freebie off on them!
And they should ask the nearest Gamestop to turn over THEIR video to corroborate what you were trying to pull.
That's assuming you are truly for real, that is.

Here. right here, is a perfect example of one of the many reasons Walmart will not return products without a receipt.
Besides the fact that you tried to defraud them, you then proceeded to lie through your teeth.
"I told her I had to call my grandparents that bought it for me and find that out."
Then you had the audacity to try the same thing at Gamestop. You even think they ripped you off because they caught your blatant scam. Shameful.
People like you are the reason stores don't trust ANYONE any more, why should they.

It never ceases to amaze me how liars and thieves NEVER think they're doing anything wrong. I find it hard to believe that the police are not already busting down the door at this CONFESSED scammer's house. Especially considering his performance at WalMart. Well, just give them time.

First of all: You didn't buy it from walmart. You attempted to make a return there without puchasing from them. That's fraud. You are mad because walmart caught you trying to commit fraud on them? You have the audacity to come n this site and claim wal-mart is ripping you off when you clearly tried to rip walmart off?
Second: Gamestop didn't rip you off either. I'm sure that is a big problem with people stealing and trying to sell them consoles. There's no law saying gamestop has to purchase used merchandise from you. They didn't rip you off either.
This report is clearly without any sort of merit. Especially since it begins with the OP trying to defraud wal-mart.

This has to be a joke, because no one could be this stupid. Not only to try this but to post on a public web site that they think they were being ripped off. But on the chance that you are telling the entire story, there is only one person trying to ripoff anyone. If you want to know who that is, just take a look in the mirror.
By the way anyone can make a package "look" new with a few dollars of worth of shrink wrap. So for anyone knows your "new" xbox is nothing more than an xbox that no longer works or perhaps even a nicely wrapped brick.
