The employees play the games up to four weeks before the game comes out? You have to be kidding. They don't actually even receive the games in store until about a week before release date. Second, if the games are taken home and played before release date, that is violation of street date and Gamestop faces a huge monetary loss/disciplinary action.
Games are taken home and played, new and used. The thing about that is, management only allows 3 day check-outs. If you were to return your check-out in any condition but new, then you get to buy that game or be terminated as an employee. Check-outs for the employees are crucial. How in the hell can you sell something you know nothing about? There's complaints when a customer asks about a game and you know nothing about it.
So the employees check out the games to help you, and you must complain about that? Go figure. You don't have to buy an opened copy, you can ask for a sealed copy. That's what I always do. If the store I am in is out of sealed copies, I simply drive to another Gamestop or video game store nearby. Believe it or not, no one is holding a gun to your head making you buy that opened copy.
Last, just for the sake of spilling it all, the employees DO NOT/CANNOT check out pre ordered copies which is oneof the reasons customers are asked for pre orders at each visit. If you find a store in violation of that, then you need to look at the store's management and leave feedback on the surveys. There is a survey at the bottom of every receipt. If something wrong is addressed in the survey and it is legit, then it will legitimately be addressed in the stores in that district. Please, everyone who reads this and has an issue with it try to keep an open mind and stop spewing ignorant bulls***. No one owes you anything in this world. Thank you.

i know a family member who has worked at 3, and he said that they only take home used games as they have already been damaged beyond repair already.
