I also had a crappy experience with Gary's Marketplace and I am not alone!! 4 friends and I went to his wayne store - same as the origional poster who posted his problem with Gary's Marketplace. I have to agree with the origional poster about Gary's Marketplace decor. I will never shop there again knowing that I am most likely paying for that decor too!! I am also sure that Gary's passes the cost of the store to the customer. I also think Gary's commercials are a turn-off! ALSO, the managers there are jokes. I went in the week before St Paddy's Day and asked one of the managers to point out a couple wines for me. We were getting a couple cases of wine, case of liquor and we were supposed to also get a keg (which the losers say they don't know anything about). I was pissed and went to speak with the manager. He was talking with another customer and said that he would be over to help soon. I waited 15 minutes and asked again. When I was walking back to my friends (the other side of the store) I could here the woman, who was with the manager, giggle! I was a bit shocked but also really pissed because we were waiting so long and just wanted to get out of the store. My friend went back to get the manager's help and as he approached (the manager had not seen him yet) my friend heard the manager laughing about us not knowing "jack sh*t" about wine and should consider "slurping box wine". He was also having a laugh at his girlfriends brother (who has autism). I was so disgusted and was about to leave and go to one of the other stores that I typically go to when I was finally directed to some wine by a customer who (in his words) couldn't help but listen since the manager was talking in circles! At this point I SHOULD have run out of the store but we were ready to get the wine etc. and get the hel* home to set up for our Paddy's Day party!!! We should have been in and out in 10-15 minutes and now we were in the store for 50 minutes. So, I finally got the wine and we were all going to pay until we got close to the register and heard ANOTHER shouting match with another employee! Couldn't really understand but it was something about Gary's prices being higher than another liquor store and not price matching. I had never been to any GARY'S MARKETPLACE before and will NEVER go to Gary's Marketplace AGAIN! For now on I will go to the Wine Library or Bottle King!! Definately don't get your wine at Kings! I priced out all of my favorites and a few more and they are definately more expensive. Not too much, but I don't like paying more if I don't have too!! There is another really great place called 98 Degrees. I have had great success with those 3 places. I love my wines and love to be schooled on any wine. Wine Library, Bottle King and 98 Degrees takes the time to tell you everything you need and want to know!! Do not go to GARY'S MARKETPLACE unless you feel like getting in a pissing match and feeling ripped off! Oh and I also don't like the employees at BUYRITE!! They know nothing about wines!!!

I am a senior manager at Gary's Wine & Marketplace in Wayne. After reading the original report I was a bit taken back. At Gary's we are extremely customer oriented and bend over backwards to please a customer. If a manager acted this way with a customer he would be fired on the spot; and he knows it!
Our guidelines for returns are consistent throughout our three stores. As long as a product is unopened and not damaged we always allow returns; even without a receipt. For parties, we allow customers to overbuy and return the unused items.
Managers have the authority to process returns and his claim that the manager called Gary is a total fabrication.
I strongly believe this original report is a total hoax and demand additional information from the original poster. I'd like to see his original receipt, date and time he allegedly returned to the store and a name or description of the manager.
