GE Capital Cons Cardco
I want to make it clear from the start that the issue my report describes was resolved quickly and fairly by GE Capital Cons Cardco.
I had purchased some speakers for my stereo, and had paid regularly on the bill. In fact, I had overpaid, i.e., I had amassed a credit on my account of over $100.
I later purchased a color television, priced at about $850. Although the credit agreement states that no particular amount is due at any particular time (just pay off by the due date to avoid finance charges), I received a statement indicating I had failed to "pay on time". The statement described a "past due amount" and assessed a late charge.
I went over my checkbook, totalled up the payments I had made to prove to myself that I was not late in making payments. It was then I discovered the overpayment I had made before ever purchasing the television.
I immediately wrote a letter to the address on the statement, stating exactly what I have described here. Although I received no reply, I noticed a refund of the "late fees" on my very next monthly statement.
I have read some of the reports about this company. I would like to point out that phone calls do not do any good. WRITE A LETTER FIRST, then call. Written letters provide you with certain legal advantages, phone calls do not. Read the Billing Rights Summary on the back of the statement.
