To whom it may concern:
On April 16, 2014, I received a phone call from a man with a very thick Indian accent, who claimed to be with GE Capital in Clearwater, Florida, after regretfully applying for a "pre-approved" loan online on April 8, 2014. Are you aware of a company offering loans via information they receive from an online application, and they say they are with GE Capital in Clearwater, Florida? From the time I made the application on April 8, 2014, to present, I have been inundated with phone calls from "loan companies", with every single caller having an Indian accent. This particular caller, supposedly "Frank Jefferson" with GE Capital, worked up loan terms of a $3,000.00 loan @ 10% interest, for 24 months with a payment of $138/mo. He said that the loan payments will be secured via an insurance policy through American National Insurance Company, which will make the loan payments for up to 8 months, and that to start the loan I would need to pay a one time payment of $260.00 for the insurance policy, that amount based on the amount of the loan. He told me that I must go to a Home Depot store for what he called a "voucher", which I have figured out is actually a MoneyPak prepaid debit card for $5.00. He stated I would need to purchase that and call him back, and follow his instructions from there. I recognized the red flag right there and put a stop to his actions. Thankfully, I did not release any financial information to him. I have also figured out that the phone number they use is possibly a Magic Jack phone number, Magic Jack being a device which is plugged into an electrical wall outlet and somehow is able to provide telephone service to the user, with a non-traceable number. Their telephone number is: (727) 242-7280.
I spoke with a man using the name "Frank Jefferson" and another man using the name "Mike Ryan". Both men had very strong Indian accents. Another man, whose name I didn't get, also spoke with a thick Indian accent.
I am going to provide this organization's telephone number that I communicated with them on to the Florida attorney general's office, the Florida consumer affairs office, the Federal Trade Commission office, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for their review and investigation.
