I have an account with PayPal, financed through GE Money Bank. A grand total of a little over $100. I made an online payment and it came back that the "online check" had not cleared because I had no account with the financial institution. Thinking I had made an error, I re-entered the data and tried again. I get an e-mail a few days later saying the "online check" was returned. Apparently my account with my bank does not exist. Funny, my bank disagrees. They have no record of the withdrawal attempt. Nonetheless, I am now charged with returned check fees from both payment attempts and a late payment fee.

I call the number GE gives and am told if I entered everything correctly, it should be fine and to try again. But they cannot change the returned check information because they were returned checks. Which they clearly were not. Absolutely no help from the outsourced assistance line, which is the only way you can contact GE Money Bank.

I made one last attempt online, and once again it was returned. This last time I re-verified everything by checking my routing number and account number against other companies I have complete success with whilst completing online payments. My husband does a sanity check and I resubmit it. There is no doubt it should work, but - lo and behold - I get another e-mail stating that I have no account with my bank and am charged for another returned check fee.

I gave up the online attempts and sent a paper check through USPS with the same account information and it went through just fine. But I just received a letter from GE Money Banky stating they are closing my account because of my returned checks. I am livid. I don't mind closing the account, I had intended to after paying it off, which I am doing with the next PAPER statement. But having this on my credit because of their online protocal is unacceptable. I called and talked to 'Bernadine', who happens to have a very strong accent, and she does nothing to help except say that I had 3 returned checks, she will not even attempt to understand what I am explaining, let alone investigate my claim. I get absolutely no assistance whatsoever from her. She reads her screen and parrots the same response over and over.

I can find no record anywhere of GE Money Bank attempting to access my bank. My bank has no record of it, and I was never charged with a returned check or even a processing fee from my bank. I know this would happen because when I initially started paying online I actually did screw up numbers and my bank notified me along with the company I was attempting to pay.

I am livid. Something like this destroys your credit and it is pure BS. I don't know what to do, except start looking at sites like this one. I hope this helps someone, even if it can't help me.

www.Ftc.gov and www.ots.gov Federal Trade Commission and Office of Thrift Supervision. The Government needs to know that GE is screwing its customers and the only way is to file formal complaints. We all need to file these complaints or it will never stop! My issue is unauthorized charges and unauthorized changes to my mailing address.
