The 1997 or 1998 Cadillac catera has an engine flaw that causes the engine to cook. The warning is sent but no recall. It happened to me two weeks before I received the warning. Because I had to get rid of the Catera as they wanted $9000 for an engine, Cadillac refuses to admit that I sustained any loss.

I got $2500 for the car and it had 44, 464 miles on it. Now I am told I could have had a free engine. This was not revealed to me. So I am out tons of money, had to purchase another car and yet Cadillac says I sustained no loss. Every car goes farther than 44, 464 miles. I even had to replace the brakes as soon as it went out of warranty. Only a nut would put a $9000 engine in a cra that was not a success and did not retain its value.

Rebuttal Submitted: 5/15/2002 10:16:24 PM Modified: 5/16/2002 1:37:52 AM GM shell game at its best...... Cadillac Catera?....First off, that car is really an Opel (the model of which escapes me). The Saturn "L" series is on a similar platform. Cadillac has been notorious in rebadging other cars as a "Cadillac". The most disgusting example was their Cimaron. Looked sort of like a Chevrolet Cavalier, huh? Surprise surprise! That's EXACTLY what it was. The Cadillac Sevelle was at one time an "X body" based model. X body you say?....Try Chevrolet Nova, that was an X Body also at that time. Cadillac Escalade? (or whatever their pricy SUV is called) Pick one up at the local Chevrolet dealer instead. Thousands less and you'll lose that hideous mass of chrome on the front end. The only noteworthy Cadillac "exclusive" is their Northstar engine. That is one successful, well done design from GM. (Uhh..we'll forget the very similar Olds Aurora(?)engine for now. I think it was a smaller displacement)After the Vega engine and the crappy "Quad Four", it was about time for GM to get something right. When is a Cadillac REALLY a Cadillac? When it shares the Buick Roadmaster platform. Only sort of. Adolph - South Bend, Indiana
