Due to a severe medical illness, I was forced to leave my job in Sept. 2006 and file for Social Security Disability. I immediately contacted GMAC Mortgage & informed them of my situation & asked for a Special Forbearance, allowing me to make 1/2 payments for approx. 6 months while my Disability Claim was processed. GMAC Mortgage denied my request. I sent in partial (1/2) payments anyway. GMAC Mortgage cashed every check. The phone calls & letters started after the first late payment. All the articles I read say to contact your lender right away & ask for assistance to avoid foreclosure. What a joke. An outright lie.

I completely agree w/ others about trying to contact a rep. at GMAC Mortgage. They make it impossible. I was told that if I made 1 full payment, that would slow down the foreclosure process. I borrowed the money from a friend to make the payment. The foreclosure notice came in the mail the very next month. I was behind in my payments by $1500. Not one person that I have spoken with can believe that this lender wants to take my house for $1500. It is an old house. Nothing fancy or special about the house or the land it sits on. If they would agree to the Special Forbearance, at least they would still be getting some money from me. By the way, I was a GM employee for 14 years. So much for "brand loyalty."

Jennifer, Did you not read the report of the person who said that they tried to take their home for 30? I strongly recommend that you pay Gmac the full amount due and owing. Oh yeah, be prepared to pay late fees, outrageous lawyer fees, miscellaneous fees, and whatever other fees they might assess (be they real or imaginary). Knowing Gmac you are probably going to have to pay anywhere from $3,000.00 to $5,000.00 to get out of foreclosure and keep your home. A word to the wise, get everything in writing and send all correspondence via U.S. Postal Service, registered mail, return receipt requested. Good Luck and God Bless
