I called customer service twice in the last couple of weeks to see about setting up two websites with GoDaddy. I've used them before and they were easy to use, so they were my first stop. I clearly explained to the gentleman assisting me that I needed to host two different and separate websites. I was informed that I could go with the Economy Linux hosting plan or any other Linux plan. (I was told this BOTH times I called and by two different representatives.)

Since I didn't need much space, I requested the Economy plan. The representative even put me on hold to go ask if what I was trying to do could be done. He came back and informed me that indeed it could be done.

So we proceeded with the checkout. Two domains + economy linux hosting. I gave him my credit card number and the sale was final. He even walked me through getting the site basics set up. He gave me instructions for setting up the second domain on the hosting plan because it would take 24 hours for the account to be set up.

Today, when it wouldn't work (setting up the second domain), I called customer support who informed me that what I was trying to do was impossible on my current plan and that I would have to upgrade the plan before I could finish.

The fact that I had to pay extra was frustrating enough now that this had all the makings of a "bait and switch" sale -- but what really upset me was the fact that the representative from the night before put me on HOLD long enough to "go ask a supervisor" and even then came back with false information.

After speaking with yet another representative today (he was very polite on the phone, I should add), he informed me that the most he could do was give me the equivalent of a (almost) $7 discount on the next-highest-up plan (Deluxe hosting). Don't get me wrong -- if I have to upgrade because there are no other options, I appreciate the discount, but that doesn't make up for the inconvenience -- or the fact that the sales representative from last night and two weeks ago lied to me.

Current regulations prevent me from transferring my new domains to another host for at least 60 days (as explained by the sales representative today)-- so I'm out of luck if I wanted to go with another hosting service before then.

In the end I opted to go ahead and purchase the upgrade because I need these sites up in a short period of time. But I am not impressed with the customer service. The representative on the phone even told me that the supervisor was -too busy- to jump on the line to apologize but that he (the supervisor) wanted me to know that he was truly very sorry.

So the short story is -- look elsewhere for your domain hosting needs.

Customer Service Clearly Mistaken

I have several hosting accounts with GoDaddy, and host a number of websites on those accounts. The person you talked to on the phone clearly did not understand the products, because their website clearly states the limitations of the Economy plans vs. the Deluxe plans. I specifically chose the Deluxe plan because of the need to host several domains at once, and have had no problems with the services. It is a shame that they person didn't understand the products well, but it is difficult to really see that as "bait and switch". I have dealt with this company for some time, and they seem to be a reputable organization to me.
