You know those places that will buy your gold and silver for cash? One in Houston, Gold and Silver Buyers, is run by Brian Culwell, a three-time felon and notorious scam artist who has previously served time for felony theft, fraud and other convictions.

In one case, Culwell opened an eBay market under the banner of Hakeem Olajuwon's Dreamkids Foundation and sold extremely cheap jewelry at grossly inflated prices. Customers thought they were both getting a deal and helping impoverished kids get an education. Instead, one buyer told us that he paid around $700 for an engagement ring "that looked like it came out of a 25-cent gumball machine."

Nine other buyers came forth and told the DA similar stories. Olajuwon's name was cleared, but only after the Dream came downtown under subpoena and gave a statement that he was unaware of Culwell's jewelry sales in his name. Culwell was supposed to have been selling only sports memorabilia, according to Olajuwon's testimony.

The company now has more than 50 gold-buying outlets scattered across Texas, featuring corporate spokesman Mickey Gilley.

Simply put, this company has never paid the most or came even close to the slogan if you sell your gold or silver to anyone else, you just lost money.

Does it really count when you give money to hide it from the IRS? Giving it to charities that you sit on the board of or that your friends control, only means that you are putting money where it can't be taxed!

This company always has a problem with customers checks not clearing, employee's checks not clearing and all for what? Mr Culwell hides his money so that when the feds finally do freeze is accounts they will only get a portion of the funds needed to opperate that day. Why else would he have zero balance accounts?

How is it possible to wrap all your worst stores into a bankruptcy and then keep the best ones you have, with them not being effected? Many people are owed a lot of money and all these stores should be available to repay what is owed.

Our reputation speaks for itself

While we appreciate that a reporter has taken the time and effort to focus on one of the investors in our company who has turned his life around, the clear malice behind his actions is evident.

Gold & Silver Buyers maintains a stellar reputation and continues to grow for a few very simple reasons: we treat our customers right, we guarantee to pay the most and we are convenient.

The company employs close to 200 people in the state of Texas alone and is a major positive contributor to the economy both in taxes it pays to the State and Federal government and in turning unwanted precious metals into disposable income that is infused into the economy versus "stimulus money" that is just adding to the national debt.  This reporter's intent to damage the reputation of the company affects the jobs and lives of these employees and their families.

Aside from personal attacks on Mr. Culwell, who incidentally gave almost a million dollars of his own money to charitable causes in the past two years, this story has nothing to do with the company itself or the level of service we provide.

At the end of the day, you have a choice when you sell your items to any company and what should matter the most is whether or not you're getting paid the most.  Our guarantee is to beat any legitimate offer from any competitor - period.

As for the other allegations made by the reporter that posted this rip off report, they have no bearing on the reputation of our company.  The fact that at the end of the post he would ask people to "link" to his report clearly shows the malice he intends.  If he wants to sell his gold to us, we are going to pay him the most and treat him with the same respect that hundreds of thousands of other Texans have experienced in dealing with our company for the past several years.

Once again, you have a choice, and we greatly appreciate the fact that Texans continue to choose us, and WE will continue to strive to maintain that excellence in everything we do.
