Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

We stopped at Flying J in Beaver, Utah (aka Eagles Landing Truck Centre) to fill up  our 45 foot RV with diesel fuel.  While filling up we were approached by a rep from the tire shop immediately west of the diesel pumps and were told we needed to replace 2 rear tires as they were separating.  We believed them and agreed to replace them.

They told us that there was an RV in the shop across the lot, other side of Flying J building, right there at the time requiring over $5,000 worth of repairs because a tire blew and caused a lot of damage underneath.  As a consequence, they upsold us another four tires,  so now we were at a total of six tires purchased.  When we got to Great Falls and met up with friends also travelling back to Canada and told them why we were delayed and where we had the tires replaced.  They said, oh yes, they were very aware of the place as the year prior they had been feeling up exactly the same as we were and approached the same way.  However, they smelled skunk as they had just installed all brand-new tires on their unit, so they knew it was a blatant ripoff.

further, we were overcharged by over $2,000 as we paid $7,193.70 U.S. for the 6 tires (plus tax of $499.96).  The  total price we were quoted by Kal Tire in Alberta, Canada, was $5849.80 Canadian (which is about 30% higher than US dollars) with 5% GST tax included.

we were also told that if they wrote on the invoice that tires were replaced due to possible road hazard, we would probably not have to pay duty.  That was also far from the truth, so we also paid duty on the 6 tires.

we have reason to believe that the name of this tire shop changed in the last year or so from Goober's to Sporty's To Go.  But the principal is the same person, i.e. Slade Smith, as there is a note on the bottom left corner of the invoice to call Slade Smith at 801-710-8574 for comments or questions.  When you call that number, the recording says you have reached Slade Smith of High Country Sales.  The top of the invoice reads:  Sporty's To Go, 1392 N 300 W, Beaver, Utah 84713, (phone) 435-438-5162.  Yet the cash register receipt says at the top:  Flying J, Store 509, 653 West 1400 North, Beaver, Utah.  I can't imagine Flying J would want their name and reputation to be associated with this kind of ripoff, and I will be filing a report with them, also.

we were not given the tires they removed, and I am betting they probably were able to make a profit also on the resale of those.

Fellow RV'ers, please don't be misled by these crooks.
