Like everybody else that took a vacation to Mexico, Playa del Carmen, Grand Mayan resorts. Beautiful there, said we were not going to buy another resort, but was lied to, stating we can sell our existing 3 timeshares, so we would not have to deal with the maintenance fees, because they had none, (that was the selling point for my husband). Only pay when you use. Lie, got a bill for annual maintenance fee for $1021. Other fees that I paid, that had nothing to do with Grand Mayan (I found out later), and got most of it back from my charge card. (Still working on more). Trying to get down payment and other fees I paid to transfer our old timeshares, which they said would cost around $200 to transfer all our existing timeshares, lied, they charged $545. for each. They also had the nerve to try to sell us back our timeshares, then later, oh "you can have them back at no cost".....My friends also bought into this and having the same problems. We charged $5915. to our credit card (which I am trying to get back, but was told I have to send the entire contract of all the paperwork from Grand Mayan), what a hassel! Our daughter paid $1500. cash, and my husband paid the rest off, $20,000 with a loan from his company stocks. What can we do about this? Help!!! We want our money back.

Mayan Palace Timeshare Scam

#2Consumer Suggestion

I'm not gonna deny that the resorts are beutiful, but the practices they use to sell timeshares are the worst. Mayan Palace salespeople always offer a trade-In, letting the buyer believe that Mayan Palace is going to take their other timeshare and sell them for them and deducting the cost of their new timeshare with Mayan Palace, but at the end you end up owning two timeshares and payments due for Mayan Palace turning it into in a double scam. I suggest you to read this article from Mexican Timeshare Solutions about Mayan Palace and how to get out of a scam:

We have also been Ripped off and we have talked to Lawyers and an agency in Mexico.  We will either get this fixed or continue until consumers are well aware of the bad business practices.  We were guaranteed they would sell our previous timeshare and rent our weeks! Of course it never happened and we are now in debt because of it.
