Complaint Review: Great Eastern Resort Corporation - McGaheysville Virginia

I am writing this report because I noticed that I am not the only person who has been scammed by this resort corporation.  I recenlty filed a complaint with the District Attorney's office in Viriginia regarding this corporation.  We too were given false information regarding a timeshare sale.  We were taken on a tour to show us their property and offered us a so called great deal. 

We declined the purchase, but they would not let us go easy. The salesman, David Garcia, still brought a "manager" so that he could try to pressure us into purchasing an "even better" deal.  They make these sales too good to be true. They assured us a 2 bedroom repo unit, with so many points to be used, extra weeks of vacation free, and we could use our unit whenever we wanted to as long as we made reservations ahead of time.

  They told us the unit was a reposessed unit and he claimed it was one of the ones he showed us.  We were there for a long time because we were hesitant to purchase but they pressured us so much and like idiots we gave in.  Not long before we returned home from our vacation there, we received an invoice for the year's maintenance fees. I was puzzled because we hadn't even owned a month yet.

I just knew that we were getting charged for the maintenance fees of the previous owner. They denied it of course and I asked to speak to a manager.  They did not budge and told us that if we did not pay the maintenance fees, we could not reserve our vacation.  I called different people and did not get any help.  I was then told that I had lost my privilege to reserve and that we had lost the week for that year!

This is crazy, I am a current timeshare owner and have been an owner for over 20 years and not once have I gone through anything like this.  I was highly upset and argued with them and asked to speak to the manager.  I was given the runaround and was always told the person was not available.  I wrote emails and I contacted the sales person, David Garcia, because he willingly gave me his number and said anything I needed I could contact him ....but he never answered - of course. 

I told them I did not want the timeshare and I wanted to relinquish it and they said I could not do that and I was basically stuck with it.  I said I refused to pay for it and I was not interested in keeping it and they could have it back.  I didn't care about the money I had put down, I did not want to deal with this and they said "well, you can try to sell it". They referred me to a real estate agency in their area of course. 

The real estate agency was so eager to sell it for me but I had to pay them $1,000 up front. It is hard for me to believe that they are not working together, really?  I have tried so many times to relinquish this unit and just give it back and wash my hands of it, but they threatened to ruin my credit as well. 

I have been paying for this unit for 3 years now and I am never able to book a vacation because they lied, it was not a point system, it is a week unit which is given a value and the value is always so low, I cannot reserve a week of vacation unless I pay a year in advance and combine the 2 weeks together!  The unit is not the one they promised me, it is a partial unit and I cannot reserve at Massanutten either because I am only allowed to reserve every other year. 

They are scammers and liars!!  AND looking at my account, they do not apply my much of my payment to any part of my principal so an account that I should have paid off in 4 years has turned into an account that I will be paying on for over 11 years!  At this point, I don't care that my credit is ruined, I'm going to tell them to shove this unit where the sun doesn't shine.

  I hope this report helps other people.  This resort corporation is full of deceiving people and thieves.  If you want to purchase a timeshare, I highly recommend Daily Management.  I have owned with them for over 20 years and they are legit.
